Clutch and dmf

Hi guys
So I've got a T6 with 63k on it, after MOT today I was told the dmf is on its way out and was advised to do the clutch at the same time
(Know the guy who did the MOT so wouldn't bullshit me)

What is the average price for this to be done?
Any good links for parts?

Also is it common for this to happen at this mileage?

Cheers

Price can vary considerably around the country, but likely upwards of £700.

As to its lifespan, they can fail on their own but usually it's a case of how theyre treated.

Be aware that theyre rattly old things at the best of times and even a good low mileage one can sound like a cement mixer full of old teapots. If it drives fine and feels ok id be inclined to leave it, and make sure your AA membership is up to date just to be on the safe side.

Thanks for the reply
Aye so when I am pulling away in 1st the van tends to judder at times so mechanic said most likely the clutch is on its way out

Yeah, could well be the clutch is worn. It could be a crankshaft seal contaminating the clutch but your spanner jockey would likely have spotted external evidence of that.

The DMF is only designed to last the life of the clutch, very much a false economy not to replade that while hes in there.

Are you the first owner?

I thought flywheel would last up to 80 - 100k
I'm the 2nd owner
Just had a lower from arm done last week that was £420
Money pits haha

The dual mass flywheel can last for years, or it can fail a few weeks after a new clutch is fitted (we've had that happen to a member on here.)

The biggest part of the cost is the labour, so even if your DMF is fine it would be unwise not to replace it while the box and clutch are already off.

Sadly we don't know how club footed then original owner may have been.

I had my DMF and clutch changed at 60K. Same as you. Judder in 1st and 2nd and in reverse uphill.
The mechanic even said the flywheel looked OK once it was out but the difference once changed was night and day even on tick over. There was way less vibration in the van as a whole.
Strongly suggest you get a genuine LUK clutch kit (flywheel and clutch).

Mileage isn't always the best indicator, a van that's racked up 63K miles tramping up and down motorways in top gear won't have the same wear as a van with 40K miles in stop / start urban traffic.

Ye that's what I'm getting is the juddering in reverse
Do yous the the start stop systems ruin clutches quicker?

Has anyone got a link or a website for fly wheel and clutch kits?
Luk fly wheel seems to out of stock nationwide
Part no flywheel 415120310

Find a steep hill and reverse up it with full beans, If it doesn’t squeal it’s good.

Hi bud,

At 31k miles my flywheel & clutch was worn out. I’m now on 97k miles and I’m feeling the judder between 1st & 2nd gear. Anyone got any recommendations for the repairs around West Mids? I don’t fancy another £2.5k bill at dealers
