Clayton Power + Leisure battery

Hello All,

Recently we got a Clayton Power LPS2 3000 version installed in our campervan. Eventually we made the decision to go fully electric with all the appliance's.
This due to having 2 small kids and not wanting gas leakage's or diesel fumes inside the camper when we use it.

Now we are planning to go on a long trip next year and also going off grid for hopefully a good amount of this trip. The question arose if the Clayton could handle this.
I have looked at the extension battery option. But it is a lot of money nearly the same as an extra LPS.

So i was thinking to install a seat based battery and then with the DC-DC converter from Clayton to hook it up to the LPS. Not being a electrician of some sort.
I have the question if this is a possibility? It would save half the cost and have the same out come of buying the extension battery.

Kind regards,

Coen

You can do that.

You will need to move the LPS feed form the starter battery to the new Leisure battery.

Then use the new dcdc charger to charger the LB from the engine bay.

The LPS will then be charged by the LB.....the LB will be used as a storage battery to buffer the extra power.

You would need a 230ah lithium and a 30-50A dcdc charger.

Running full electric off grid requires a lot of 12v battery power.

The problem is always how to recharge the following day.

We have 460ah battery, 2.6kw inverter, 530w solar....... And still run into problems if the sun is not shining.

Take a look at my electric build on here...

But, to be fair....

By the time you have bought a LB and dcdc charger and have all the wires changed about.....

You will be at the cost of the LPS extra battery anyway.

That 3wk inverter will run the LPS down quickly.

Id suggest you get the LPS extra battery, or even two.

And also look at adding the super charger to allow for a quicker recharge.
..

Or you will need to be driving around for 10hours every day to recharge the battery bank.

Btw.....

What are you planning for heater.

A diesel heater is the norm.

I've tried running mains heaters from the 12v system.....it doesn't work.

To high a demand and too long to recharge.

Will a super charger charge most batteries
What about a power bank

Do you have a link if so

Thanks

No, it's Clayton LPS specific.

But your van use the bluetti charger 1 for most portable power packs with a solar input.

Could you use gas for cooking etc outside of the van to reduce power consumption while you are off grid?
That's what most do.... With a canopy or drive away awning.

And use a diesel heater for warmth.

...

Saying they, we run a microwave and air fryer. But also use a twin burner cadac.
