Currently out of UK and have had this amber warning light illuminate. Vehicle behaviour is otherwise quite normal. Handbook states fault with catalytic converter / exhaust system that should be checked by a dealer.
Was advised by VW Breakdown Assist. that it would be quite safe to drive to my final destination. Now safely there it’s typical that an issue like this should arise at this time of year when garages are closing for the holiday and are unable to examine vehicle to diagnose where the fault lies.
Latest local dealership telephone advice is not to drive for long a distance. This would create potential inconvenience in returning home in the van.
Still in consultation with breakdown dept. re potential repatriation to UK if the need arises.
Can a forum member provide any useful technical assistance in this matter?

That looks like the general engine warning light which can be a lot of things, the dpf symbol is similar with dots in the symbol.

Also what engine/model is it and where are you?

Thanks for your response Loz. Vehicle is a 150 T32 DSG Highline from Oct last year.
The amber light in question is lit up (as opposed to flashing.) Page 18 of my handbook states: ‘Fault in catalytic converter.’
Page 286 says, ‘There is a fault with the exhaust. Have the engine checked by a qualified workshop.’
We (the family) are currently in Denmark.

The 150s have been subject to a recall for replacement sensors, have your been done?

No Loz it hasn’t. I wasn’t aware of this recall. I suspect that if I end up having my van checked / repaired here in Denmark then I’ll have to pay for labour and parts whereas if I head home to UK it should be covered under my warranty. As stated above I have experienced no other symptoms and my van is driving perfectly in every other respect. Question is can I safely drive the 900 or so miles back home and get things rectified at my local dealer?

If it is the sensor giving false readings then not an issue to drive as long as it doesn't put the ECU in limp mode, if you could get a local dealer to at least scan it you might have a better idea of what it it, your warranty should be valid with all VW dealers.

@oceanromeo ,

If the van drives as normal it is most likely the same fault we have all had. We have covered 18000 miles with this coming on and off, Vw assist uk said if it’s amber you can drive it still, ours has never gone into limp mode.

Thanks Loz. Hoping VW Assist get back to me (as promised) on 27th with an appt at a local dealership.

Thanks G11hws. Your reply goes a long way to putting mine (and my wife’s) mind at rest.

You may also find that it will reset itself if you stop and start the van enough times circa 100 starts, we don’t even bother resetting it now it does it itself. All the best and safe journey back.

Hi only had my van 4 weeks covered 350 miles, just got the Amber warning light, Fault in Catalytic converter on way home ! 150 dsg.

We are driving back to UK having been advised by VW technician (VW Breakdown Assistance) that if just an amber light my local dealership can rectify. Appointment already made early New Year. Thank you to those that chimed in with advice here. Much appreciated.

Thanks for your speedy reply, spoken to dealer this afternoon told me to bring my van up tomorrow but forecast shit. So not sure if I will be able to drop it off. He was Not concerned about it, he said will check it over.

Drove back to UK at a steady pace just before New Year. The amber light was illuminated throughout the trip with no symptoms indicating anything else untoward. Interestingly enough no light the last two days driving locally, so the thick plottens. Van booked in with local dealer Wednesday.
