Carpeting lining error

Hey all,

Made a bit of a mistake with my carpeting of my van. I thought I would be able to get J channel trim on around the window reveal but it’s too tight between the metal lip and glass. I should have just left the carpeting we and tucked it over the lip to cover the edge.

Anyone got any tips to rectify?

I will be fitting Vanshades but they don’t hide the reveal.

As @mbh say, lay a piece of oversized carpet over the top and cut through the two layers. Put some masking tape on the original carpet to stop the spray glue getting on to the already fixed carpet. Scuff the joint up with tip of the Stanley blade

Is it possible to peel a couple of inches away around the window then stretch it so there’s enough to cover the gap and reglue?

Sorry, I probably didn’t explain it very well.

The section in the photo is a bit short, but my main concern is around the actual window aperture. For some reason I cut the carpet too short, so I haven’t got enough material left to tuck it all the way around the opening properly 🤦‍♂️

I’ve seen the plastic window surrounds you can buy instead of using U-trim or J-trim, as I’m struggling to get either of those on now. Just wondered if anyone has used them before and whether they give a decent finish?

I'd personally redo the whole door. A hit to the wallet and a lesson learnt is a small price to pay knowing its done right and not just patcher over.

When cutting 4 way stretch you need to be using the sharpest possible blade for a clean lines and cuts.

I was considering that as the rest of the carpeting is tidy. It’s not the door though it’s the whole drivers side.

I'm assuming you'll be installing blinds/curtains of some description, install some van shades and im sure that will cover it.
Yeah will be fitting Vanshades but I’m sure you can still see the edge when they are open. Hoping someone with Vanshades might pop in with a photo 😃
