Carbon monoxide detector recommendations

Hi, can anyone recommend a carbon monoxide detector for a campervan? Don't want to wire it in so internal battery operated. Not sure on whether I want to screw it on or stick it on a surface. Don't want to spend the earth but must meet all relevant safety standards.

TIA

Hi, I use the following and they do one without a screen which makes it a little cheaper. Wolf Shield The only thing I would say is it's too loud for a van but I suppose that's better than being too quite. :) They are also available in white if that suites your interior better.

I fitted the one with screen about 6 months ago, all working well so far.

Not just for your vans! These things are really handy for taking on your holidays when you're staying in Air-B&Bs, cheap hotels etc. Over 40 people die per year from carbon monoxide poisoning in the UK. That's just the UK, where safety rules can often be a bit stricter than other places. The figure is much higher across Europe and the rest of the world. They take up hardly any space in your suitcase but give you that extra piece of mind when you're away. You can get them for £10 - £15 quid. A small price to pay for a bit of added safety.

Daft question - where do you mount the detector?
I have one above the 'wardrobe'. Probably better in the open space rather than hidden on a shelf.

Stick it where your boiler is. Or close to it. Mine was on the landing, but my local service engineer told to move it into the airing cupboard where the boiler is.

I've got the wolf shield with the screen, stuck on the end of the rear cupboards just above my head when driving, I do hope it doesn't go off whilst driving, they are very loud! It hasn't in 2 years, remember to test them occasionally, 10 year battery life apparently.

Mines fitted on the rear cupboards too just above the diesel heater controls. Not far from where I sleep so if it ever goes off in the night 😩😅

I just installed a FireAngel FA3820-EU in my van, placed it in a similar position to icn05’s above. 😎
Also added a fire extinguisher behind the drivers seat at the same time. 👍

One lesson learned from the narrowboat (gas boiler and solid fuel stove) is that CO monitors don't enjoy damp conditions - expect them not to last as long as they would in a house before they start to false trigger.

At home (solid fuel stove) I use the Kidde one with the screen. We've had one fail (very loudly at 4am) but the screen means you can double check things.

Currently on the narrowboat we have a Fire Angel combined unit, that's an optical smoke sensor

(Amazon links as examples not recommending as a supplier)

I watched a YouTuber (Thomas Heaton) vid the other day, he had a fault from his diesel heater, his Wolf shield alarm didn’t activate, lucky he had a second alarm which did sound the alarm, I’ve got a wolf shield alarm too, and also have another back up alarm fitted, I’m going to find a way of testing the wolf shield with carbon monoxide, as I don’t trust it.
Just putting it out there for any other Wolf Shield carbon monoxide owners, get a back up alarm

I saw the same video & also have a Wolf shield alarm although not the same model. Mine has a display which shows ppm and although I’ve not tested it to the point of activating an alarm, it does register just by turning the gas hob on with the windows closed.

I do intend getting an additional detector of a different make as a back up

Ah, I’ve got the older model, yes, having a display would certainly help to see it’s monitoring the air, I might upgrade to the new one, then I’ll have 3…
