Caravan Camera....

guys Just been talking to @Tourershine and was wondering is it possible to,
Fit a reverse camera to my caravan and see the picture on my t6’s head unit? I have a factory fitted reverse camera on my t6 already which obviously switches off when the caravan is hooked up..
really don’t fancy extra screens or a built in screen to my rear view mirror

Now this is an interesting one, I think it would be feasible to find a way to wire an additional camera to the headunit through a relay so you could have one or the other possibly auto switching or a manual switch to flick between them ?
The tricky part would be recoding to allow the camera to still work when the van senses a plug in the towbar socket
There are several functions that switch/change when a trailer is detected and not sure if these are individually programmable as you obviously dont want to turn off all functions

Well @Pauly if you can find the awnser I think you could make a few quid, there isn’t really any descent caravan camera systems on the market, non that actually use the factory screens anyway, (none that I’ve seen and could be wrong) but I’m sure people would be queuing up for them

If there is an AV input on the head unit you could use that and manually switch to it. Would save any coding issues

So I basically just run a wire from camera to the head unit av input and this could work?
Your have to excuse me once again I don’t understand anything about this lol

As long as it wasn't a factory one, my reverse camera plugs terminates in RCA plugs. Oh wait, I don't know if the factory AV input is standard format (don't have one).

Someone must know this?

If you have a VW headunit then there is no AV input on any of the models that I’m aware of

Hmm so the av input is a no go, what about splicing into the camera cable in the tailgate and finding out how to make sure it stays on when caravan is hooked up?

That was my thinking, join a second camera into the wiring via a relay so they can be switched between, you would need some sort of 2pin/2 pole waterproof connector to join the caravan camera cable to the van wiring somewhere around the towbar but it would all be down to getting the camera to activate whilst something is connected to towbar elecs ?
