Sadly lots of vehicles have done away with dipsticks which I think is a mistake

You are so right, there are so many disadvantages not having a dipstick that I won’t bother listing, my wife’s t6.1 tdi had one but not her T7 😤

I think the design engineers have their collective heads up the bean-counters' arses - a manoeuvre initiated by the other arses... the ones that sit in the boardroom.
 
Problem is manufacturers are caught between a rock and a hard place.

The average motorist doesnt lift the bonnet from one service to the next, in which case E monitoring of oil levels can be handy. The downside is prudent old school types like us do check regularly and its us the absence of a disptick inconveniences.

Sadly our little group of diligent users is probably shrinking.
