Broken Rear Tail Light Connector

I’m currently in the process of replacing my rear tail lights, the offside light came off no problem, but the drivers side would not budge. After being a “bit” more forceful I managed to break the clip

Anyone got any advice how I can remove this without using a big hammer?

That was my first go to and after 45 minutes I needed to go and cooldown . I was hoping someone might have a special technique, before I give it another go tomorrow.

Try warming it up a little bit with a hairdryer.
Cold plastics is tricky

Have a close look at the other one to see how the locking clip works.

Thanks for all the advice guys, in the end I spent around another hour going through every tool in my toolbox, I have no idea how I did it in the end, but I got the thing off. Next time I'll definitely remember the correct technique and not break the clip as I don't want to have to go through that again

There is a specific VW electrical connector removal tool you can buy (aliexpress etc) but not sure if it does the connector you are referring to.

It's not something I've had difficulty with and that coming from someone with next to no technical ability

Just the same as a repinning tool .
I used a bent paperclip and some long nose pliers

Was you trying to depin the connection so you could swap the wires around or get the connection off? If the connection is damaged you should be able to see a part number on it so it can be replaced. It will just need to depinned and swapped over.
