Bosch ECU remap - finally?

They need to leave a margin in reserve for reliability, different (and future) emissions standardsmin different markets, driveability for the average Joe who just wants to be transported from A to B, etc etc.

Didn’t I read somewhere that stricter emissions tests might become part of MOT? If this happens and van has been remapped, adblue deleted etc, it’s going to be a problem for a lot of people.
Interestingly I tried to sell a tuning box for my KTM bike on eBay and they flagged the auction as against policy because it’s an “emissions defeat device” which EU now apparently prevents resale of. So does seem it’s getting harder and harder to work around.

I'll be having mine done at some point, not in a mad rush so going to wait a while in the hope they'll be able to do it without sending the ECU away ... soon.

I would think emissions would/could/should potentially be better with a remap.

That's just a remap, no delete of adblue/DPF/egr.

You may be right. Not sure if it’s generally the goal of a tune though or even checked? My understanding is that generally the reason power is increased is partially down to removing some of the restrictions that allow them to meet the emissions limits but I could be wrong!

I reckon that VW engineering is not that good any more.
But do you really think that all the efforts they did to make the TDI emission compliant can be outdone by these two .... aehm .... smaller companies, just with a remap?

As much as I trust VW (or any major car manufacturer), which is as far as I could throw the whole company, I would think they are obliged to spend many 10millions to get some of their emissions to a certain level (what emissions aren't talked about, aren't measured, so doesn't matter to them or government at this time (ie, brake particulates, phenols, benzenes, aldehydes, sulphates etc etc)).
I fail to see how a relatively small group of hackers/mechs/companies can comprehensively test and beat the emissions of these complicated vehicles whilst improving torque/speed/psi/longevity.
Not saying that VW (or most other major manufacturers) 'care' that much other than getting vehicles on the road and selling them, but at least they have the full scope from design to manufacturer to hardware/software to fiddling around with the settings to get an all round 'ok' vehicle.

Playing with the basic settings will improve some things but I really doubt that everything can be improved with a new firmware update which incidentally, is still brand new and relatively untested, and definitely not tested for longevity (firmware has only recently been cracked). How long till the next firmware/ROM udpate? Or the one after that?

However, I could be wrong and these hacks are the bees bollox.

I've heard that the firmware hasn't been cracked, but a new eprom with open architecture is soldered onto the board. The original is then cloned onto it to restore the vehicle to driveable syatus, allowing folk to then remap further on down the line.

Makes sense, I guess. After all, if it were simply (far from simple, im sure) a case of code cracking the van and technician could be 10,000 miles apart, just so long as there's a decent Internet connection between the two.

Hell, I've soldered about as many components to boards as I've had hot dinners!

Can't they ship a batch of these 'eproms' to UK & some dude does it 10 mins before he puts a new map on it???

Probably someone will figure that out before long.

Well, they *could*, but does that make good business sense for them given they currently have exclusivity?

Latest update from Pendle Performance:

🗞️ News Flash 🗞️ Bosch MD1CS104

Huge thanks to everyone being patient while we developed the software on these T6.1 2021 onwards

This is a video talk on one we have just finished.

This weekend we will be putting up information on the process of us tuning ur T6.1 with a new booking system dedicated to these T6.1 (expect us to release this Sunday)

2022 VW T6.1 2.0TDI-CR 150bhp

Standard - 163bhp & 355Nm
Pendle Tuned - 219bhp & 468Nm

PendlePerformance
West Close Road
Barnoldswick

So let's say all the above is true.
It should work well with the DNAB too, that is FWIK the same of the DNAA with a weaker OEM mapping.
At this point the technical problem could shift to the 5-gear box, that cannot handle more that 300 Nm, again, FWIK.
Wasn't there an "improvement kit" for such gearbox on the T5? (Darkside ?) Could it work on the 6.1? Or would it be easier/ cheaper to install a 6-gear given the new performance?

Itd be easier/cheaper to buy a 150 and be done with it.
Hi @Sasquatch, I knew that you would be interested in the discussion having the same sub-type.
I can say that it is not so easy. It is a Country-market thing.
Having had other vans of the same size, I would have liked a 150 /6 gear too, but in AT, I guess for tax reasons I couldn't find one at VW.
They are all either 110 or 150 4Mo (that I don't need). So, even if willing to pay some 5K for the upgrade I couldn't and I had to set for the DNAB. Thast is surprisingly good at that so far , as I have said many times already.

Long live the T6.2!😎

Im all for modding if that floats ones boat. Suspension, seat covers, remap, whatever gives folk a semi.

But I cant get my head round stuff like 6 speed swaps, etc. Just buy the right van in the first place!

Im interested in the intellectual sense, but won't be inbibing myself. As aforementioned elsewhere, im 62 and my 6.1 will likely see me through until I quit driving. As a long term proposition I deliberately worked on the KISS principle and avoided stuff like higher output, 4motion, DSG, etc. Im not against any of it, it's all great stuff, but its more to go wrong - when the van is 10 or 15 years old I don't really fancy potentially spending £££s trying to mending an item I could have happily done without in the first place.

So watching with interest, but won't be joining in myself.

Yes I meant in intellectual sense sorry if didn't make it clear.
I am over 60 too and for a set of similar reasons I won't do that too.
But the argument is technically interesting
