Big bed mistake!

Hi all,

I recently bought this sliding bed from Van Furniture. It's about twice as much as I wanted to spend on a bed, but I wanted to avoid 'buying cheap buying twice', so I shelled out. This was after almost buying an MDF bed before realising how difficult they can become!

This bed is going to take a while to get here, potentially not before Xmas. Anyway, I live many miles and a body of water away from my van (long story) so cannot easily measure it when I want. I've made a rookie error it seems, as my van does not have the normal interior wheel arches.

It's a 2008 SWB T5 Shuttle. I thought it would be like the rest! See pics of normal T5 interior, and mine. There are no arches, just bulky plastic...

Do you think this bed will still work in this van?

I measure between this plastic and there's 1193mm, the bed extends to 1300mm. Of course it will fit, but will it be a waste of bed and should I get something else?

Thank you :)

You’re going to need to do something with the rear corner. The centre and front supports should be fine

Gave them a call (duh, sometimes brain doesn't work!) and we've changed it to a lower bed (down 10cm) and narrower, so maybe, just maybe, it'll work :)

The Van Furniture beds aren't scribed to the shape of the van - they're basically a rectangular unit so it'll need some work regardless if you want it to sit flush against the side of the van.
I have the 1800mm one with the slide-out rear drawer fitted into a LWB Kombi behind the rear seats.
Took a bit of fettling to get it to sit exactly where I wanted it...

Have you phoned them to talk over the options?

This looks good! I think because of the shape of my van sitting flush will be hard, but that's ok, I got it cheap (didn't realise this was one of the many reasons Shuttles are cheaper!)

My Brother in Laws resulted in divorce... twice🙈
Had that happen a mate of mine! He summed up the cost of the divorce in easy to understand terms: “Think of it as £100k per inch!”

Thanks for sharing this. Do you have any more pics of it in use?
Is this the standard height or ‘kombi’ height as it looks low with the cushions fitted it would match the height of the folded seats making an extra long bed?
Also is there a gap between the back of it and the wall of the van (difficult to talk from that pic) or were you able to scribe it tight to the carpet lining?

No wonder she divorced him

£150k doesn't seem too bad!
