Best wheels and All Season tyres for T6 T30 campervan for travelling with dogs

New here so if I’m asking anything stupid let me know!

Have a 2019 T6 T30 Edition van in process of being converted now. This had 20” wheels on which we need to change (suspension being changed back too).

My problem is we have 2 large dogs who will travel in a large double crate at the back over the rear axles. One of these dogs is VERY nervous at the best of times re sound. We also obviously don’t want them bumping around every time we hit a rougher patch of road or pothole so I am wanting a wheel an tyre that would be really comfortable for them, VERY quiet, a good grip in wet but still handle well on road (most of driving will be on roads but there will be a bit of grass/tracks etc.

I have been looking at 17” 7.5J wheels with 235/55/R17 XL (103) tyres (they must be asymmetrical) but what I want doesn’t seem to exist. If anyone can help steer me in the right direction (as I may well have got things wrong for what I want), either with wheel size/tyre size etc. it would be really appreciated.

My priorities are:
All season tyres
High comfort/smooth ride
VERY low db
A or B rating for wet grip
Asymmetrical

Dogs come first and foremost here.

A lot of folks on the forum love their Falken Wildpeaks

eg AT Trail All Terrain XL 235/55R17 103V plus others

I think you may need to compromise to some degree between offroad capability vs noise / comfort

Bear also in mind it is a van with the load rating requirement etc, not a luxury car.

I saying that going from 20 inch to 17 inch wheels will give you a huge improvement.

Just be aware the db number is a "drive by" noise rating and bears little, if any, relation to sound levels transmitted into the cabin, which is a function of vehicle design and soft-component compliance.

Id be with Mr Frotto and suggest Wildpeaks on a 17.

I have wildpeaks on 17” Devonport OEM wheels and they’ve been really good.

I had Uniroyals on the last set of wheels and there was no discernible change in road noise fitting the Falkens.

The Devonports are often available on the forum for sensible money. I’ve seen new take off wheels & tyres (effectively delivery miles) for £550 a set.

Yep we have Wildpeaks and dogs too. No noticeable increase in noise, but all the benefits of an AT tyre with a large sidewall. A few times I could have scuffed my wheels had I been running 20s with a lowish profile tyre.

Hi, newbie here so please forgive if I have missed an earlier response on this - I have searched the forum.

I have 18" wolfrace Eurosport aero's fitted which came from the camper conversion company with budget sports tyres. The tyres are wearing fast and are useless on grass/mud/snow.

I'm looking for all seasons tyres as we live in a rural area and often get bad weather and also take the van to muddy campsites/festivals.

I cannot find an all weather of the right size 255/45-R18-103W, only full winters. Anyone know of something of a decent brand please. Nokian have a 55 profile but I...

Or you could opt for the 215/70 R17 C size.
There you may find tires with better wet grip too.
Two possible candidates:
The Goodyear, that is a lighter 6 plies one and the Uniroyal (should be available as Semperit too) that has an A wet rating.
Both match and exceed the standar specs of any T6.

You won't go far wrong with a set of Devonports and some Agilis cross climates.

That's what I've got and they seem AOK but, TBH, this is the first van that I've ever owned so I've nothing to compare it to.

I’ll never buy another tyre that has a continuous groove around the circumference of the tyre tread. I’ve had Pirelli’s and Bridgestones both fail MOTs due to cracking in the root of the grooves.

I haven't, but theyre on my shortlist. Theyve had some decent reviews and theyre 3PMS rather. The older Geolandars were superb on my XC90, very sure footed.

I’ll never buy another tyre that has a continuous groove around the circumference of the tyre tread. I’ve had Pirelli’s and Bridgestones both fail MOTs due to cracking in the root of the grooves.

Advisory at worst , shouldn't be a fail .

Those Yokos sound interesting, and will look at those for sure as an option when my Bridgestones that came with the van (great for on road only) need replacing.
