Best Practice For Under Seat Electrics

Started the electrics today.. Have run a split charger cable and a hook up cable from the engine bay.. Currently have this coming back to under the drivers seat.

I have 4 main devices:
CTEK 250SA Dual
Battery Charger
12v Fuse box
240v fuse box.

Its not all going to fit under there.

Whats best to mount under the drivers seat and then move the rest of to the rear furniture?

nice bit of kit you have there.

simple bit of advice, keep the hi amp 12v dc cables as sort as possible. so battery, ctek smart pass, inverter etc . . . . . try and keep as short/close as possible.

240vac side less critical so can be fitted where suits.

heres a couple of generic google images . . . (SCR needs to be a DC-DC on a T6)

also carpet or spray that wood black - it'll look much better when you finished and want to show your achievements off.

Thanks for the reply..

I will 100% carpet cover the wood.. Just want to get it all planned out before I fuss!!

So 12v mains charger and consumer unit in the furniture in the back.

If I put 12v fuse box under the drivers seat all my feels will have to run to here, a problem?

If most of your low amp 12v circuits (ie led lights, usb sockets) are in the back, then fit the 12v fuse box back there, where it is most convenient .

before you start have a look at @Fish - Fish's T6.1 project, i find it most inspiring and full of amazing ideas.

I put my 12v fuse box in the back, where all the feeds are. Just one big 12v feed to it from the leisure battery.

240v fuse etc will depend where the 240v comes in.

Hi @kn0bby. I've got a similar set up. Mains hook up under the bonnet. Same battery but with an Ablemail DC DC charger under the seat. I have a 6 way 12v fuse holder under the seat. This is currently used to fuse courtesy lights and the Webasto diesel heater. 12v inline main fused feed from the leisure battery to a further 6 way fuse panel inside the furniture. This supplies fridge, diesel hob controller and water pump.

My inverter is as close as I can get it to the leisure battery but behind the furniture (twin slider allows access.) protected by 100amp inline fuse. Mains/Inverter change over relay is mounted next to the consumer unit under my top loading fridge. Pictures at the end of this thread...

Hope its of use. ;)

As a point of order, your consumer unit should have double pole MCBs or RCBOs and don't forget to earth bond the van body.

Reviving an old thread here but im looking to do something along the lines of the original post with trying to get everything under the drivers seat. My van is a Kombi with no fixed units and a Double Bench which will be getting a Swivel fitted so that only leaves the drivers seat base. What im looking to fit is…..

AGM Battery
CTEK D250SE
12v Fuse Box
240v Mini Consumer Unit
Battery Charger (for the Leisure Battery when on Hook Up, ideally a Noco Genius 5A or if that wouldn’t be powerful enough a 10A one)

Whats the chances of squeezing it all under the drivers seat base? Im kind of thinking im going to have to possibly mount items to the side if the seat base, possibly even to the outside of the seat base which I wouldn’t mind (possibly have the CTEK or Noco mounted where the storage pocket currently is?!)…….

I put the hookup and consumer unit under the bonnet, in the space in front of the vehicle battery. One less thing to squeeze under a seat.

I was going to put the Hook Up Point under the bonnet and had seen others who had put the Consumer Unit under there too, i was just a bit concerned with regards to moisture and the IP Rating of the Consumer Unit. What model is the one you have installed there? Is an IP65 Rated Consumer Unit OK to use under the bonnet?

Thanks for that

Anyone any thoughts on either a 5A or a 10A Charger? Ideally I'm after a 5A for size and space reasons, looking at a 110A Battery with just a few LED's and USB Charging. Ultimately if i'm on a Hook Up any Compressor Fridge/TV/Heater would be on the 240v Circuit....

yes, I've got all that under my single passenger seat where there is less space than under the drivers ( various factory fuses etc) Can get a photo if you wish?

If you could get a photo showing the layout and what went where that would be ideal
