Bear Lock Question

Hi all.
I'm interested in having a Bear Lock fitted to my T6 DSG and was wondering if anyone who has one fitted could answer a question.
I know it locks the gear lever in place but if you had any gearbox issues which would need taking into a dealer to sort, how would they do it.
Would the installer need to come out and remove it, then replace it again.
Never having seen what is behind the cowling where the key lock is fitted, I am curious.

Regards,

Graham

Typically, the installer or dealer would have a specialized tool or procedure to disable or bypass the Bear Lock temporarily for servicing your gearbox issues, without needing to remove and reinstall it completely.

Good timing. I have been looking at these for my DSG T6.
Keep us posted how you get on.
There's a previous mention here:

Just picking up on this, does it void the warranty/still definitively allow a dealer to service the gear box? Thanks

I queried this with VW dealer, and was told yes as it would i.e. access etc

Jaro from bearlock text me the following:-

"We jave have installed over 1000 Bear Locks and majority of them in brand new vehicles. Never had any issues with the warranty as Bear Locks does not interfere with anything in your vehicle, no electronics are involved"

To those who've had Bearlock fitted, have you had any problems from VW servicing, warranty etc??

We had the Bearlock system fitted 2 years ago whilst in UK and asked the same question before fitting and as Jaro from Bearlock states "no issues" / having said that our campervan is not under warranty. Highly recommended none the less and so pleased we had it fitted.

Thank you Qnapper and IanSF for your real world experiences and responses.

I think i must have spoken to a noob at VW who didnt know what the bearlock is, and that put the wind up me lol. So messaged Jaro and paid my deposit...again and will get this fitted as another layer of security on the van.

This and booking in with Dav-tec for meta-trak. 😃😎

You will be pleased. Just remember to reverse into places now and tight as possible to back wall or whatever..... Great peace of mind for your pride and joy.

Andrej from Bear Lock, came ysterday and after an hour, I had a Bear Lock fitted, totally unobtrusive, locks the selector in Park and does what it says on the tin. I'm very happy and it's one less 'thing' to be carrying around in the van. The Disklok is weighty enough and I hook that in the carry bag onto the arm rest.

Very happy with the install, very neat, quite low down, compared to the photos of the lock or maybe it's just the angle of the photo or wide lens making it appear higher, as I thought a passenger would hit their knees, but it's low down enough not to be screaming out, but still reachable to easily unlock.

Highly recommend it :)

Had mine fitted 3 years ago and probably the best peace of mind I've had, even with other security. I always think of it as an electronic immobaliser when you have scorpion or ghost, but a mechanical immobaliser with Bear lock so if you have both you're covering all possible bases and remove the need for those nasty visual deterants lock peddle and steering locks, I reverse up to my driveway and put bear lock on, while aired out and you'd have to be super desperate to try and get that thing off my drive without a crain.

Having just got another van, its one of the first things on my list to have done ( Just had scorpion fitted yesterday to the new van ). Even when your in a carpark, turning the button and locking it in reverse is total peace of mind that even if someone broke in, that van isnt going anywhere with some select parking.
