Battery Recommendations

I have suspected that my starter battery is not in the best condition. I think it’s a Varta battery that looks like one somebody suggested was the original in a recent thread. How do I find out if mine is the original on my 2017 T6?

Any recommendations for a replacement? Potentially from Halfords as have a mate with discount but can buy elsewhere if there’s a deal on something quality.

I have no idea what I need though.

Looks like an AGM 115 is a safe bet with a bit of an upgrade?

I’ve just replaced mine this afternoon bought from auto electrics establishment £150.

Installed new cab battery this afternoon and what a palaver removing the top plastic box on top of battery, all the ancillary wiring and physically lifting the battery out and lifting the new battery in. Loads of faults when done, no windscreen washers and wipers, no reverse camera or sensors, 11 faults listed on Carista and 4 would not stay removed. I took the van for a run the fault lights on the dash turned off and oil temp display etc came back on, got home and the final 4 faults which kept coming back I managed to remove and everything is now working perfectly.

You can input your reg on the Tanya Batteries website and they’ll give you a list of recommendations.
I’ve had a new leisure battery from them before and they are great to deal with (on the phone help as well as fast delivery).

Not tried those, but every other site just gives the like for like options and I want to upgrade to AGM115.

Couldn’t tell you the make but auto electrics place had my reg number and sold me a battery they said had more cranking amps than original with 2 years warranty.

Battery type '019' is the biggest that will fit in the space, i'm not a brand snob, as i've hd expensive and cheap batteries fail before they should.. so picked up one of these - 019 AGM Powerline Start Stop Car Battery 12V 95Ah

Point to note, the brains of the operation needs to be told a new battery is installed, especially important if your moving from EFB (which no one likes) to AGM (the best option). you will either need the kit needed to program yourself or get someone to code it for you.

i previously posted this in another thread, still have the same battery, which i installed over 5 years ago now and its still working well. out of interest i just stuck the details in ebay and the same battery available for £108 and is eligable for a 20% discount on top also -Ebay Link

Just fitted one of these to my 2017 T6 Shuttle. Tight squeeze but it fits nicely. Made an instant difference on start up compared to the 75ah battery I had.

it could be, or perhaps an OEM replacment of an early failiure MOLL battery that generally fail within the warrenty period and get replaced FOC. As its EFB and you are moving to AGM (a good move), you will need someone to code it for you, perhaps someone local to you with VCDS?

Mine is a T6.1 with a flat black box fitted on top of the battery with 5 electric connections to it.

My van (April 2017 T28) is fitted with a Moll battery.
I am experiencing some issues with it not starting after a few days sitting on the drive. Now this could be due to the tracker I have fitted draining it but I doubt it, I'll do some drain current tests before taking the plunge.
If I were to change the battery myself, could I replace it with a larger capacity one (eg a 95Ah 850A G14 Varta AGM which should just fit in the battery tray) instead of the standard 70Ah 700A Moll?
Is there anything I need to do to let the van know it has a different battery fitted? (I have VCDS if needed)

An Exide EK960 (used to be EK950 but has been renamed) is physically the largest battery that will fit. It’s a squeeze, but will fit. Gives you 850 of wonderful cranking Amps.

Went for the Halfords (Yuasa) AGM115 in the end. Swapped and coded this morning. Literally just needed to set the time and that’s it. Happy days. Cheers guys.
