Backbench California Ocean

Hi

Can anybody tell me if and where i can buy a back bench for California ocean that does not have the toolbox underneath. In fact i would like it to be empty so i can stick my surfboards through. Or has anyone modified the bench in such a way? VW told me i cannot just remove the metal plate because of the stability and the seatbelts.

just had a look ... the draw looks like it will be easy to remove which would leave about a 6" x 24" slot ... maybe with a carful bit of trimming you might gain a couple of inches in height .... sorry for the old school messuments, it's coz I'm old init

pps ... messuments from a cali beach bed , guessing the same draw as the ocean ....

The ocean has a single draw which I dare say can be removed. From memory there was a leaver on one side for moving the seat back & forth. Would you not be better laying the beds down to take surfboards.
