Awning Rail Leak Free Fitting

Hi - I have just bought a standard C channel awning rail from Funky Leisure. I now want to fit it on my T6.1 and be leak free. I don't have any roof rails and this will just be fitted in the gutter on its own. The factory blanking bolts have rubber washers on them. For fitting do I need to place the rubber washer below the awning rail and then just use the original bolt to secure the rail. Only possible leak path is then through the bolt as it goes through the rail and rubber washer. Has anyone else put another rubber washer on top of the rail before securing?

The rubber washer goes under the rail.

The bolt goes through the rail...... Add some silicone to the bolt thread to help prevent leaks.

I have the exact same question. When I had the rubber bings under the rail, it did not sit flush to the roof. I too am concerned with water ingress so unsure how to resolve

I’m just about to order some of these to do mine. Is the general consensus that there does need to be something on both sides of the rail? I’ve seen someone on YouTube fit them with just the washer under the rail and comment that it had been fine for two years.

When I spoke to the supplier direct they said there was no need for anything. I'm less optimistic! When I used the original rubber bung under the rail, the rail didn't sit flush and more water got underneath. Now this will disperse down the channels not a problem, it was more visually that I didn't like.

What I am going to do is find some rubber strip or tape like in links previously posted and run the entire length and see how that is - predominantly, we only need to do nature what doesn't go down the roof holes where the bolts are

thats pants. (not needing anything under a c-rail)

the rubber washer also protects the paint work. - as well as stopping water getting in.

when the wind blows the awning the C-rail moves and will scratch the paintwork.

@Camper Essentials make the best C-rail bar non.
