Hi All,
I saw several recommnedations for Autotech Tuning on various posts and so gave Fred (owner of Autotech) a call about my new T6. What initially drew more to Autotech was not just the promise of more power, but for me more importantly a solution for what I felt was very unsatisfcatrory DSG perfomance. In a short call Fred asured me he'd be able to resolve my issues and I was dutifully booked in.
I drove down to see Fred last week and just wanted to share what a great experience I had. Apart from seeming a very decent bloke, with a very interesting back story, Fred again listened to my issues with the DSG and talked me through what he'd doing. In what seemed like no time at all we were out for a road test and wow..... what a difference... like night and day. 100% gone was the DSG lag, the lumpy unpredicatble changes. It was now smooth as silk and felt very responsive, delivering the extra, very noticeable power from the engine beautifully.
Worth every penny and the trip to Weston and back.
Thanks Fred, you're a Star!!

Just wanted to share my review here. Like Scoobie, I came across several recommendations for Fred, so I took the opportunity to stop by on the drive back from Cornwall to Cambridge and get my 2017 T6 Caravelle 204 remapped/DSG mapped. The van had a new CXEB engine 2 years ago and I want to make sure it goes the distance, unlike the one it replaced (using 1L of oil every 700km).

Fred is a fascinating chap (I’ve yet to meet a South African who isn’t!) and clearly has a wealth of experience in all things tuning, from vans to racing cars. He installed the DSG and engine ECU maps in no time, even double-checking in his hex editor that the map was a perfect match for my particular ECU. The difference on the road was night and day.

Before, it felt like I was merely “suggesting” the van accelerate (after the ECU thought about it for a second or two) and gear changes required stamping on the throttle. Now, it drives exactly how I always expected it to: push too hard and the wheels spin, but ease into the accelerator and it glides instantly and smoothly through the gears, gathering speed far quicker than I’d imagined 😆 I didn't get it mapped for the added torque/bhp, but it's certainly nice to have, especially going uphill or pulling onto a motorway.

One surprise has been Sport mode. I never used it before, but now it feels like the engine is truly unleashed. At the same time, it allows me to feather the first 10% of the throttle and still get around briskly. The result? 38–39 mpg! Of course, flattening the throttle drops this instantly (and at full tilt it’s doing about 8 mpg), but I’m finding that Sport mode actually lets me drive more efficiently. Mad!

Overall, I’m very happy and consider it money well spent. The EGR was deleted too (blanking plates and software), with no side effects other than needing to do some motorway miles every few months to keep the DPF clear.

How much was the remap and DSG tune if you don't mind me asking? I'm considering it for mine.

Just over £500. It’d be an extra £150ish for the EGR blanking but I did that myself (£65 kit - 2 very overpriced bits of metal - from Darkside Developments).

I know it sounds cliche, but it’s truly a different van now. All the hesitation I had got used to when accelerating is gone, I actually enjoy driving it, rather than just appreciating it as a highly useful vehicle.
