Attacked by Puddles

Well more of a rant/therapy corner this one.

Van got attacked again by a rogue puddle this morning lurking in the dark. Second time in three weeks and yep you guessed it the ‘under’ engineered undertray is damaged and will need replacing £££

It only got replaced two weeks ago.

I know slow down you say. I hear you. But when it’s dark these things have a tendency to appear out of nowhere and even at 20 mph there’s little time to react. After 30+ years of driving this is the ONLY vehicle I’ve ever had undertray issues with.

There’s a lot to be said about over designing and engineering things for longevity. But profit and ‘that will do’ have been the name of the game for years now.

Now i just need to find a Coline Furze type local to design a proper undertray for me!

Careful all, the puddles love our vans, like flies to s**t.

Presumably the near side under tray just behind the wheel arch liner ?

You can re attach the busted under tray and prevent it dropping down.
Fix it in place with a panel nut and screw (same as wheel arch liner screw)
use the existing spare hole in the wheel arch liner (closest to the engine bay at the rear of the liner )
slide the panel nut over the edge of the damaged undertray (lined up with the existing hole in the wheel arch liner) screw in the screw.
No more issues !

wish I had done it before my undertray folded in half
