Anyone running split rims?

Am tempted to push the boat out on some Navis customs for the new van. Anyone running them, or other split rims? I assume (aside from cost!) downsides are cleaning as they look like they’d be a pita with all the bolts?

Do you mean the Navis Custom Forged wheels?

There's nothing on the website about load rating like there is on all their other alloy and steel wheels, so best to check before you press the button.

I think that’s because they are completely customisable so no standard load rating. I think I’ve already put myself off the idea though from research. Love the look but not sure it’s worth the cost or downsides.

Yeah they do 2 or 3 piece. Nice looking bits of kit but I think if I had them they would have to be summer wheels and I don’t really have the room to store them

Are they real split rims, as in bolt together allowing one to change tyres by unbolting a rim?
Whilst you could disassemble a wheel to remove a tyre, the purpose of a split rim is the interchangeability of centres and rims to be able to mix and match styles, widths and offsets. Reassembling a split rim wheel inside a new tyre would be virtually impossible. The bolts need to be torqued in sequence and the force required to locate the tyre with the first couple of bolts would be immense, even if the bolts are long enough to reach.

They used to be used for more extreme off road driving. Can be dangerous if the air valve is not removed before dismantling. I feel that the term split rim has been adapted over more recent years for something different.

I think that you may be confusing them with beadlock wheels. Steel Beadlock Wheel | Britpart
perhaps but really headlock are only meant to attach to rims to keep the bead on the rim at very low pressures occasionally one of mine might pop off at very low pressures 6psi Split rims where originally used to replace tyres or to change the wheel geometry width etc and would have a flap. Used more in the USA where serious bog trotting takes place.
