Android Auto - weird sound problem

OK, so I have been using AA on the T6.1 for a while without too many issues apart from being unable to adjust the volume for AA apps.

The problem just got weirder in the past few weeks. For any sound apps in AndroidAuto, such as Spotify or BBCSounds, the apps play (you can see them indicating play on the head unit and the phone) but the sound doesn't come through - it should switch over from the radio to the app in the cab, but no longer does that (but used to a couple of months ago). Phone apps still work ok though.

I've tried different phones, different cables, still the same. So it's either something to do with a newer version of Android Auto or something to do with the van setup. I've managed to solve these type of problems before by doing a cold reset on the van entertainment system, but would rather hunt down the problem this time if possible!
Any ideas anyone?

thx
Dave

Had same issue on my 2020 T6.1 transporter. There is a workaround based on playing an MP3 from an SD-Card before connecting your phone - this kinda worked for me but the audio stops after a while.
Fixed the issue properly by updating the software to version 0743 - found details on a google forum:

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the feedback. The Volkswagen team has addressed this issue. Please reach out to the nearest dealership for an available firmware update (SW 0743 for Entry2 GP2). Thanks!

I asked VW to install the update, initially they refused to admit it even existed, I refused to leave until they rechecked, they found it, installed the update and now I have Spotify in my van.
