Ambient lighting mod

Finally got around to upgrading my overhead cab light, this was a cracking mod from @saxoboy (cheers Matt).as I was installing footwell lights too I decided to supply everything from the overhead light area.I installed a 7 core yy flex which I ran up the inside of the actual A pillar(which took a bit of fishing and securing).all the connections I made were plug/socket and were all readily accessible. by using a multi core industrial flex I could send the ambient light feed up,dash cam feed up and footwell lighting feed down, leaving 2 spare cores for future use!.

Spare cores ready for a future mod on the left, and the centre plug is the ambient feed and footwell lighting feed

I installed the 2no footwell lights that came on with the overhead light, and installed a 3rd one in the glove box,so they all came on together!(saves installing an additional switch in the glove box!)

I didn’t want to solder or tap The ambient lighting feed cable,so decided to pin out the grey blue cable from the dimmer switch and rewire it to a 3 port wago block that I positioned just behind the drivers air vent, this was readily accessible and spare capacity for future mods...

The overhead ambient red leds were such a good feature at night I decided to install them to the footwell to complement them...I got some Audi door card ambient leds off eBay which was trial and error, but turned out quite effective, and all controlled by the dash dimmer.

This is the passenger footwell area,my dewalt torch is high lighted by the ambient lighting, but nothing else is!,this is the perfect combination for night time driving!...and exactly what I was looking to achieve!

the led modules Have been sitting in my garage for a year!..the guy only had a pair,if I can find a link,I’ll let you know, they are quite clever as there is also a cool white and warm white led in the module too, although I want them just for the red

These do look cool. I’m wondering whether I could use them in the door handles with the red on the ambient and the white on the courtesy. Can you shed any light on the wiring/connectors?

That’s what I got them for originally, because that’s how they work in the Audi’s...but have put them in the footwell, got to source some more now for the doors.
pin arrangements, facing the pins left to right...

the connectors are cheap as chips off ebay...DuPont 2.54mm 4 way

Perfect, many thanks

it looks like these must be in demand now because the ones I can find are around £20 and on eBay they want £10 extra each for delivery!!!o_O
