adblue error message

Hi - I am a new member stuck in France. Had a warning message ERROR: ADBLUE (DEF) no engine start in 600 miles - I am 550 miles from Eurotunnel. Took it to a garage (no VW garages near me so went to Renault). They could not fix it and said it needed to go to VW. Rang VW Europe recovery. They can only get me in to a garage in 5 days time and that is 200 miles from where I am staying and they need it with them for 3 days!. Looks like it is a sensor issue. Question is - will the engine definitely not start after 600 miles or it is just a false warning. Is there anywhere in France that anyone knows of where it can be fixed before next Tuesday. Any other thoughts would be welcome

I’m sure someone will be along soon to help, might be worth posting when you last filled up with adblue and how much you put in

It will 100% not start when the counter gets to zero.

Have you tried topping up the adblue?

There are TPIs for adblue issues on VWAG vehicles across the group. Usually only needing a software update but that’s not to say yours may be a different issue.

Someone with ODIS can add 30km once the counter reaches zero. This can only be done when it’s zero and isn’t cumulative.

Have you searched for any independent specialists with ODIS access on the route back?

Mine does it all the time, in fact it did it yesterday. I wouldn't stress too much, they reset after a short time. I bet mines done it a dozen times since owning my T6 and it's never got low enough to cause an issue, before reverting back to it's original level.

Hi

Thanks for the replies. So I topped up at a pump two days ago. I was concerned that the pump may have over filled it so I asked the garage to syphon off about 3 litres worth to make sure it did not top out above the sensor.

Apologies but I do not know what a TPI is or an ODIS. I have heard VCDS and also heard VAG - think this is why I am being directed to a VW garage 200 miles away as they will have the correct software

Wow thanks for the re assurance Tourershine. Feels a bit like Russian roulette risking it and hoping mine is the same as yours - presumably your did not keep counting down and just stayed at 600 and then reset?

I used to get that quite regularly. It’d count down to maybe 400 and then re-set. Mine was getting more frequent though (there was an EGR fault causing it) so I replaced the EGR which reduced the NOX and stopped my AdBlue error.
