Hi guys, just wanted to update you on my ABS/ESC issue.
At the beginning of June, I visited a few VAG specialists in the Manchester area and had a chance to speak to two mechanics at different garages. One of them took my van in the same day to try flashing the software, but it didn’t work out. They told me a brand new ESC module would be required.
Eventually, I went to the second place. After speaking with the mechanic, I left the van with them for diagnostics. My MOT was due to expire in a couple of days, so they were pretty much my last hope.
Long story short — they explained that even a small difference in the numbers on the ESC module makes it incompatible with ABS pump itself on certain T6s. They helped me source a used ABS unit (to save money) and sent me a link to one from Portugal for £350, as they don’t deal with used parts themselves.
A few days later, after I brought the part to them, they fitted it, calibrated everything, and it solved the problem.
So — £350 for the part + £700 for labour = not bad compared to a brand new ABS module alone at £2200.
Honestly, I’d already given up on the van and was ready to stick it on eBay auction, but they managed to sort it out.
I have to say, I’m a bit disappointed with the whole experience of dealing with a modern diesel vehicle. I’ve started looking into electric vans — I know they’re complex on the software/electrical side, but at least they don’t have gearboxes, injectors, timing belts, clutch, engine oil, DPF, EGR, AdBlue, and all the rest…
THE PLACE IS CALLED VAG TECHNIK LOCATED IN MANCHESTER (Eccles).
