Hi
I’m looking to buy my first VW campervan and I’ve come across a 2017 LWB DSG 4motion mileage 65k however I have also read a lot of horror stories for this particular engine , would appreciate others experiences before I make a decision .Thank you

Welcome to the Forum!
I think this thread will be very informative;

There are others relevant to your question;

It's also worth remembering that people take to forums when they have problems, there are probably thousands of 204Hp T6's driving around perfectly that we don't get to hear about.
Personally I'd be looking for a 150Hp variant just because the odds of catastrophic engine failure appear to be much lower.

Good until they are bad, like many things in life.
I’ve got a CFCA which many wouldn’t touch with someone else’s. It’s rock solid once the EGR was sorted out and the official service interval reduced.
They are not drive and forget about vehicles.

I have the very same vehicle, 2017/LWB/4mot/DSG/65k miles. All good, love the van. No issues.

The bottom line;

Load of people have had issues.

Loads more haven't.

You may be fine, you may get anally invaded by your bank manager - it all comes down to how much of a gamble you fancy, and only you can determine that.

A 2017 204ps 75k miles cxeb is right before the 85k clif edge that could mean a new engine......

It may be fine...... But, it may start using a ton of oil and need a £20k engine and exhaust system.

(It take the 85k miles for the block bores to wear down)..... So you will have no idea before that.

That’s the exact age and combo that I have. It’s now on 153k miles so far trouble free. Just back from 6 weeks in Italy and Croatia and I’d happily set off on another similar adventure tomorrow (after an oil change as it’s 7k since the last one).
Failure seems to be in the lap of the gods and I didn’t know about these issues before I bought the van 5 1/2 years ago.
But the risk of a £20k repair bill would steer me towards the 150bhp variant if choosing now.
I think much of it depends on oil change frequency. These 20k interval are only good for saving fleet managers money.
I change mine at a max of 7k miles, usually less depending on the timing of big trips.
So if it’s done 4K since the last oil change and I’m off on a 3k euro trip then I’d change the oil before I go. It costs £70 which is less than it cost me in fuel to go mountain biking last weekend. Regular oil changes are a no brainer.

I think it's a block manufacturer date range that effected, but we can't find our what serial numbers it's from.

It seems that a lot of earlier 2016/17 vans are ok,

But 2017/18/19 vans are more prone.
