2024 California Ocean 6.1 – Front middle-left sensor always red + loud beeping when slowing down (but works fine when stationary?)

Hi all,

I’m trying to figure out a weird issue with my 2024 California Ocean 6.1 and I’m hoping someone here has seen something similar.

The issue

When I slow the car down, the front assist / parking sensor system behaves strangely:
  • The front middle-left sensor always goes red
  • It starts beeping loudly every time I decelerate or creep forward
  • This happens even when:
    • The bumper/sensor area is clean
    • There is nothing in front of the car
    • No visible obstruction at all

What’s confusing

When the car is fully stopped, everything seems normal:
  • If I manually enable the parking sensors while stationary:
    • All sensors work correctly
    • No constant red warning
    • Distance detection is accurate
    • Pedestrians walking in front are detected properly

So the system itself clearly works — just not during low-speed movement / braking.

What I’ve checked so far

  • Sensor is clean (no dirt, ice, water, etc.)
  • Nothing physically blocking the bumper
  • Issue is always the same sensor (front middle-left)
  • Works fine in stationary mode
  • Problem only appears when the car is rolling slowly / slowing down

My questions

Has anyone seen this behavior before?
I’m wondering if this could be:
  • A faulty ultrasonic sensor that only fails under vibration/motion
  • A loose connector or wiring issue behind the bumper
  • Calibration issue between parking sensors and front assist system
  • Software glitch during deceleration (sensor fusion issue?)

Any advice appreciated

Before I book a service visit, I’d like to narrow down whether this is:
  • A known software bug / reset fix
  • Or something physical with the sensor or wiring
If anyone has had similar symptoms or knows what to check next, I’d really appreciate the help.

I have no direct experience in VW, since mine doesn't have front sensors, but FWIW on my Mercedes I had a similar problem with the license plate frame that was vibrating and upsetting the sensor that was nerby (not in front of it).

Is it lowered @atokodi? Mine is (60mm, GTT bumper) and the front sensors can spot a small insect at 20 paces, so I turned 'em off in the head unit.

Probably a stone has hit the sensor and broken it's sensitive internal ultrasonic workings. Had the same issue on a Golf a few years ago. Replaced sensor fixed it.
