2021 - T6.1 SOS Error

Hi All,

2021 T6.1 Highline... just started getting an 'SOS emergency call' warning and a red light next to the SOS button overhead

Digging through the forum suggests this may coincide with a software update email about mobile networks I recent received - or some oddity with the battery history in the SOS module.

I've tried a factory reset through the radio unit and also triggering an SOS call (which seems to work), but still the red light.

I've also removed and re-added my primary user via the connect app, which suggests the mobile data is working ok, but still the SOS error.

Is there anyone local who might be able to clear the battery history to sort this ?

@Loz - tried to direct message you again (you helped me sort the rear speaker fader a few years back) - but it doesn't seem to let me...

Regards,

Gareth.

My independent garage reset the battery, as in the forum posts, I think the majority of the sos faults are with a battery expiry date stamp in the software, there is no way so many 2021 plated batteries are physically expired all around the same time, anyway the reset worked on my van a few months ago
Ps I’ve never done a vw software update on my van but still had the sos fault pop up, 21 plate van

I have a t6.1 2021 plate and I’ve got the same error, spoke to my local be dealer in York and I’ve been told I need a new one, under warranty but they are on back order with no dates, it’s the battery it’s self that needs replaced

I’ve just had the error appear today for the first time in my 2021 Highline. Does anyone know if this can be sorted with VCDS as was thinking of investing anyway but this might help justify it in my head!

I have had this on my 2021 startline, there are -lefty of threads about it. It may need a new battery but in a lot of cases it just needs the battery history resetting using ODB11 or vcds.

I would try that first before waiting for VW stock. It worked on mine.

Thats was what I was thinking. I've been wanting to purchase VCDS for a while anyway so will probably just order it now and get this sorted as well.

Thank you!

Provided its just the battery counter and not a genujnely duff battery, then yes.

I used obd11 which read the backup battery level as 94%, initially failed to clear the fault, until going into the telematics module and using the clear history option after which the SOS light went from red to green. A few days later still green, so hopefully that's sorted. Seems rather coincidental that lots of similar age vehicles are showing this issue - does it relate to the recent email regarding the software update ?

My 'infotainment' (no satnav) unit shows version hardware version 720 and software 0890, but any attempt to update says 'no data available..' although the services menu shows 'online system update - activated'. Poor mobile signal where I park, so perhaps the reason ?

2021 T6 owner here with same problem appearing for me this week! Wondering which level of OBD11 is able to read the telematics battery values and also reset the history to clear this? My local mechanic uses VCDS but I'd like something for when we're on the road to put my mind at ease if something like this pops up again.
Thanks
