16 to 17 issues?

Looking to swap my 16” 205/65 for some nice 17’s with AT type tyres. T6.1 T28 LWB.

I’ve spent forever looking at every post in here, looking at pics etc.
I’ve used will they fit to compare the impact of different sizes and most common seems to be 235/65

How much impact does the approx 9% Speedo difference on gearing, acceleration, wear on the gearbox and engine etc?

I don’t want to match the diameter of what I already have as they look tiny in the arches. I’d like them to look more filled but some of the falken pics I see look to ballooned to me.

It depends on the width of the AT tyre and the width of the wheels you choose, as to how chunky the tyre will appear. You can adjust your choice if each to get your desired look. Just bear in mind that an AT tyre is not meant to look like a standard tyre, for obvious reasons.

As to the speedo, this does depend on the standard tyre size it’s set up for vs the replacement, but always worth checking your speedo measurement vs a GPS speed reading when doing the various speed limits to compare. 30, 50, 60, 70, etc.

My T32 now reads around 1-2mph higher on GPS when doing 70mph in speedo.

I can’t comment on how the change may or may not affect the drivetrain though, as had mine in for only 6 months or so. Nothing I have noticed so far though.

Thank you - I’ve seen pics of yours and it looks superb! Remind me as I’ve read tha many posts - Did you go from 16 to 17?

Firstly, with respect and I am the king of this, dont overthink it. And it does depend on your perception of the balloon look. Following advice I went 235/65/17 as this would closer to OEM sizing. And a gentle drop of about 50mm with a Koni definition kit. The ride is superb, the handling is far better than expected. Reference speed difference, yes there is a small difference but looking at the speedo and GPS its marginal. Regarding gearbox issues I have never heard of that unless you are mixing tyres, but thats more detrimental in an AWD/4WD.

Hope this helps

Very kind, thank you.

Mine is a T32, so would have come with 17’s. I bought it with 18” Sportline’s fitted though, before switching back to Devonport’s.
