About to collect campervan. Been offered 16 or 20 inch alloys as steel 16 not available.

Which size gives best drive and value and best for tyre replacement costs?

Not bothered about looks, only the drive and replacement costs.

What tyres are going on? 20s can be pricy for boots and you definitely dont want Nang Tang Woosong bakelite specials. They'd be generous indeed to throw in a glands worth of quality rubber on top of rhe wheels.

No idea. Collecting from Cambridge Campervans this week.

….in reply to Sasquatch would likely look at all season tyres of a decent well known make when they need replacing…

16s would highly likely be the OEM 105/107C rated commercial tyres. All the vans I see arrive at that place have factory Claytons on. I drive past it nearly every day

Can’t beat a set of ChingLings to get you through the MOT

If you aren’t bothered by looks etc, it seems a bit weird you are going for a VW in the first place

Not bothered about looks then go 16….will be more forgiving with some thick decent rubber and obviously a cheaper to replace the tyres when needed.

There can be benefits to having larger wheels however.

Im not bothered by looks. Its a van for crying out loud.

I draw the line at bright pink with lacy net curtains and a W111TON private number plate in memory of Dale, but beyond that its function before form all the way for me.

But do the benefits outright the costs??
That would be personal preference really…. I much prefer the way my van drives with it being lowered on eibach coilovers, 20 inch wheels and the bigger golf R brakes…… but that all comes at a cost to initially fit and then maintain. So I would say yes to answer your question.

Really depends on what your after in term of the drive itself and the looks. But as you say you aren’t bothered about the look then 16 inch will do the job

If they're offering 16 or 20 on a van that will be collected in a few days time, ask if they're doing anything to adapt the suspension to compensate for new wheels.

Of course not and you know it.
Will be a budget 20" rim with Landsail/Accelera 275/45 all around.
And yes - the drive will not be great.

If it's all about the cost 16". The will come with commercial tyres that will last some time.
