Not sure about always, but it is certainly the most common cause assuming your symptoms are the same. I guess it could also be the cambelt tensioner too.
Hi all.
I've just purchased a T6 from a VW branch.
2017,
33k miles.
Highline
I wanted to get a cambelt as part of the purchase, as I am still on the mindset of 5 years.. they will offer a cambelt change for £599 instead of the £699.
I could go a local garage and I think they would charge...
...ok hijacking this thread instead of making new post.
In the 1st photo, is this pipe coming from intercooler or i’m mistaken? Its near the cambelt side. Also do i clean it with some brake cleaner and monitor it further if still leaks or gets worse?
2nd photo, never had the crank end seal done...

But the sob story ends there as I have a lovely 'new' t5.1, 2015 only 61k miles on...
I'll keep it short.
VwT6 - 2016

CAAB engine.
Cambelt and waterpump done this week. Zero faults or issues on vcds or otherwise until today in the entire time I've had the van.
Passed every MOT its had.
Great van.
Daily driver.
Errors taken from calista OB2 (note...same on VCDS also...
Surely the amount they are charging would be noticeable, what i mean is yearly stuff like service & MOT is normally a few hundred quid but add a cambelt and waterpump to that and your into 4 figure sums !!
Cambelt change now advised by VW at 120K, search on here and you'll find lots of info.
This brings UK into line with European practice, although should be qualified by regular inspections.
...just that code pop up on my 2017 2ltr 204 been sat over xmas so I've cleared the fault and put some dipitane in it and gave it a blast in low gears high revs for a few motorway miles could be an expensive garage visit as i need a big service (cambelt) and front discs and pads fingers crossed...
