They are a bit fiddly. You need to pop the glass out first, then take out the couple of screws that you can see. You should then be able to pop off the cover, but be very careful as the clips break easily. You will then get access. However, from my memory, there is very little that you can get...

After recently stripping my mirrors down and fiddling with all this the cables all run through the centre hole of the folding mirror and have some tight bends on them and some ground connections. Do you fold the mirrors a lot? Maybe it's frayed? Either way it's a door card off job to get to it...
