    Oil filter housing

As I understand it (not this type of filter on my van) When you unscrew the filter cap, any oil in the filter drains into the sump, so it should be OK to remove and check for any faults on the O ring or debris causing the seal not to seal.

Rough idle / potential misfire after EGR replacement, probable causes? VCDS logging approach?

If you have a bent connecting rod it’s due to the rebuilt EGR cooler leaking. Forget the fact that it was renewed later, it’s irellevant. Ask to see the evidence of coolant in the charge air cooler while you are with the van. I’m still not certain whether all dealings are with the same garage...

    I think I've messed up!

Although I'm not a mechanic I'm going to stick my neck out and say that metal shards that are visible to the naked eye, and bits of plastic, in the oil pick up strainer certainly point to a problem. Was it running OK before you removed the sump?

    Tools for oil change

Unscrew the sump plug and pop a pan underneath. Just watch where you place the pan though. The oil comes out at an angle. Screw a new sump plug back in. Move the pan and undo the small nut (bung) 1st using a socket (13mm I think) as seen below and let the oil drain out the filter housing...

    I think I've messed up!

Yea it ran fine, just a heavy oil leak from somewhere that was hard to diagnose. That's why I replaced boost hose seals/ clips, rocker cover gasket, oil pressure/ cooler and resealed the sump. It did have a compression issue last year and that resulted in a new head gasket being fitted, as well...

    Cambelt Change DIY CXHA?

Hi, HubertK, I just finished the job, can't say it was easy, but made me feel good afterwards. Sure thing the second time will be much handier. One quick question, do you know the torque value for bolts 21,22,23, the only info I found is 40nm+180°, but I feel uneasy to apply such a force to...

    I think I've messed up!

I used a small tube of Dirko HT. It was about £5 from a motor factors. It's really nice and easy to apply a bead and heat resistant. My advice would be to try and remove the most awkward bolt from the sump first before attempting the others. I went arse about face and left it til last, and as...

The Sandwich Van. My T6 project

Right so i have been a little slack on updates recently, mainly because I've ended up doing a load of maintenance rather than camper progress. I took the old girl into VW for a service and that led to a big list of things that needed changing, all common things but frustrating none the less...

    oil extraction

Hi, I have just received a miller oil test kit, is there a way to get some oil out from the engine without having to go the trouble of removing the sump plug just enough to fill the small bottle 80 ml . Thank you.

    Cambelt Change DIY CXHA?

I was very close to pulling trigger on laser one but crossed reference individual part numbers and everything matched amazon kit and laser one. I can’t comment on the actually quality and how long seal will last as it’s only been on for just over a week. I made my decision on the fact VW ones...

Rough idle / potential misfire after EGR replacement, probable causes? VCDS logging approach?

Le sigh. I'll speak with the (decent) bunch who did the original work and ask them to do the TDC test. They said they had road tested it pretty thoroughly before I collected it... it seems I was lucky enough to have the mechanically cleaned EGR fail on my watch. I bit of a shit that their guy...

Dead turbo at 46k miles :-(

Don't know but I will ask. Why is replacing the charge air cooler important? I assume because the old one contains bits of turbo?

Oil level low, followed by low oil pressure

Hi guys, My van, a 2019 T6 CXFA engine, has been having an interesting phase of issues lately. Let me post them, hopefully they are all related to the oil pressure sensor. 1st problem: When its cold, sometimes it doesnt start on first key trurn. Its as if the starter turns, then immediately...

    Crank gear counter-holding tool

I believe the sump should be removed to fit it properly as the seal comes with the plastic carrier. You can fit it without removing the sump but you feed the seal onto the crank at an angle. Search you tube for a t6 belt change and you get a vid from the vw garage run by the 2 balkan guys...

    Rear main seal replacement?

Is anyone able to offer advice/ opinions on whether my rear main seal needs replacement? (T6 CAAC engine, 6 speed box, mileage 75k) And if I need to replace it, do I need to drop the sump and use the special tool T10134 or is there a work around? I have just dropped the box and removed the...

Rough idle / potential misfire after EGR replacement, probable causes? VCDS logging approach?

Thank you! Sorry if this was not clear and if you feel you're repeating yourself!. It's a separate and unlinked garage which has found the intercooler to be fouled. I asked them to measure the piston crowns at TDC and explained why... frustratingly I think this was either lost in translation...

Rough idle / potential misfire after EGR replacement, probable causes? VCDS logging approach?

If the mechanic didn’t replace the gasket on the EGR cooler / valve interface and then pressure test the unit before fitting back on the vehicle they are negligent IMO. This is normal engineering practice, obviously ignoring any one of the above has consequences. You may have a fight on your...

    Changing Auxiliary Belt & Tensioner

How do you get to the M13 hex bolt ( re the tension pulley) on the euro5 engine, I have dropped the alternator. I can see 2 bolts 16mm head, for what I think is the power steering pump But can only get at the nearside one. Spanners are either too long or a short stubby, not enough leverage to...

    I think I've messed up!

It's just 10mm socket for the majority of the bolts and I think there is 2 that need to be accessed with a hex ball tool/socket as the angle of them if using a straight edge hex would just round it off. I cannot remember if i was a 5mm or 6mm, but I used a hex ball socket piece on one of those...
