We're planning a visit to York soon, with the intention of going to the Railway Museum and Yorvik. Possibly also the Science Museum. Accepting this is one of those "how long is a piece of string" questions, is two days adequate to give these the attention they deserve, and a bit of enjoying the city?

Also, recommendations please for campsites. We're coming down from Scotland, probably down the A1(M). Ideally, we'd prefer to either leave the van on site (VW conversion) or (at worst) take it to a P&R to access the city from there. Or, easy public transport access. We might have bikes with us as an additional transport option.

Caravan and Motorhome club site is very central, right by the river.

Yes, York would be a good weekend destination. If you are going to Jorvick then do book in advance.

York City Centre is only 5 mins walk away.

It’s a great site. Do ring ahead though - I live on the other side of the river. The access roads to the site flood a few times a year, being right on the riverbank.

Nearby is Bishopthorpe Road with all the shops you’ll ever need. Lovely street.

As to how long you’ll need, it’s probably two full days just for the museums. More if you want to explore the city.

Good time of year to come - not as many visitors. Christmas is far far too busy and it gets rammed at Easter and summer holidays.
