Would you consider a vivaro over a t6 as a newbie?

Depends on when they arrive. If can get a Vivaro now and drive it until the VW arrives in 12 months that’s probably a win

It all depends what you want to use it for. If it's a tool to get you and your kit from job to job, then the Vivaro will do that. It might not be as swish, but the job still gets done.

I thought about alternatives before getting my 6.1. I came to two conclusions, lack of mods for other vans compared to transporters and more importantly....will i look at a transporter and regret not getting one. So the answer was simple

well my 2016 vivaro lwb crew I’ve owned from new has had a rebuilt gearbox, replacement radiator, replacement engine and now another 4kmiles on - it’s in for another new engine. Currently sat on 44k Miles.

So - I’m finally utterly fed up with it. What to do next.

Well - I’m looking at a t6 swb highline panel 150 dsg in deep black pearl..... unless the new-car-discount web page price is massively wrong and I’ll find that out tomorrow - I’m gonna take the plunge.

Will I regret it?.

All depends what you want from a van.
I had a 2012 model, ex demo. I ran it for well over 100k and it never let me down, had any faults and gave good mpg.
I still run one (for my son) on a 17 plate, ex demo. Its done about 60k and has been 100% no faults. He smashes his vans to bits, every panel is fecked.
For him, its been perfect. It also drives just fine, but its not a 204.....

I just got my T6, my mates a VW Mechanic and told me the Vivaro is the most reliable and actually the only decent product they make (I can vouch for that as my missus had a mokka and it was horrendous) but I ultimately just new that if I didn’t get a transporter I’d want one every time I saw one... a bit like when I bought a focus st in 2017 because it was a few k cheaper than a Golf GTI and then realised the Golf was what I wanted…

I personally looked at the Vito also but there isn’t as much choice out there for sure

Further to my previous comment, the fact you are on a VW forum must mean you have a certain amount of enthusiasm towards the brand, so perhaps that answers your question. There will be many Vivaro users that are perfectly happy with their choice because to them, it's just the thing that gets their tools to site and they have no interest in anything van/car related.

Had a few vans...Trafic from new, new gearbox at 40k, just out of warranty .....Ex demo Crafter, worst van I've had in terms of reliability and endless faults....Sprinter, best van to date and not sure why im passing this on when my new 6.1 arrives sometime this millennium!

I had a 2016 Vivaro and it wasn't a great van. Comfortable and economical yes, but not very good quality.
