Wing mirrors

Hi I’ve just bought a t5 and the wing mirrors are shabby and don’t work properly. I’m sure the electrics will be ok and I’m replacing the forward knob for original type to make sure. My question is I’d like to get new mirrors (non oem because of price …) and I need them to be electric adjusting, electric folding and heated. Do such after market items exist?

They do. I looked at them for my t5.1, so I could add the electric folding function. I’ll see if I can find them and get back to you… but yes, they exist.

Travelling-lite have some listed Here for T5/5.1.
Vee Dub Transporters do electric folding for T5.1 but manual fold (electric adjust & heat) only for T5?

They do. I looked at them for my t5.1, so I could add the electric folding function. I’ll see if I can find them and get back to you… but yes, they exist.

You’ll be grateful for the manual fold when someone clips your mirror - an inexpensive fix at about £7

Does your van currently have power fold or are you upgrading ? If so travelinlite do a kit for that too .
We have them on our van (fitted them after one of the factory non folding mirrors was removed by a passing motorhome) .

Somthing id like to do on mine, But they dont seem to have the kits anymore for 6.1

The quality is 'meant to OE ....but its not so these are good but if you could find genuine ones to retrofit thats what I'd be looking at for yours Jack .
I reckon these folding mirrors have saved me so many times since fitting them (approx 7 years ago) when in tight spots , plus they look cool

There is a place that do them but i dont fancy paying 1500. I did have some in my basket for 450 on travelin lite. But they must have dis continued them or somthing
Suppose i could look for genuine parts then see if i could get the looms from somewhere.....im no good with anything electrics.

I know they are power fold as they try one folds fully one half way! The switch on top of the door card suggests heat and power adjust as well as the two window switches as well as the rocker for locking

I’ve just fitted a pair from “Ace Car parts”
£245 on EBay!
The y seem OK and were an easy swap!

No button specifically for ‘fold’? Do they just fold on locking the van or have I misinterpreted your post?
When I looked at doing it for mine, as it currently doesn’t have power fold, I seem to recall I’d also need a new switch (with a button for the fold function) and maybe some additional wiring to get power fold. It was a few years ago that I looked so can’t be totally sure if there was anything else like coding them in to fold on locking?

Yes, that refreshed my memory. The joystick/button in my van doesn’t have that 12 o’clock (fold) position hence why I would also need a new switch to really benefit if I go down the power fold mirror route. For me it felt a big outlay just to add the fold function.

Yep if I remember the kit I bought was £365 at the time.

Yes it does have “selected fold” function but it happens randomly, as part of the knob function. Part of the issue is that it’s a non stock chrome cap which doesn’t have and knib to follow what function is selected I’ll try to post a picture. Very confusing I know

Yes exactly nice well done. I’ve got a chrome non stock cap on that knob. I’ve ordered a new rotating switch so I can start from scratch. But the original post was about suggestions on availability and suppliers which I’m very grateful for… it’s great that so much other information comes out in these posts which I’m also extremely grateful for. Made it a lot easier for a complete newbie. Cheers

Oh! Plus £60 for an OEM switch and £11 for the module from Amazon and £6 for a relay module to make it work with the OEM switch!
I’m currently drawing a schematic for what I did and I’ll post it soon!
