Windscreen Replacement ?

Not a happy bunny, windscreen now got a lovely crack 5" long drivers side A post right in my eye line, 16 plate T6 Highline with heated screen, auto wipers and auto lights. Is this a straight forward replacement or because of the gizmos etc is it more specialised ? it even looks like the rear view mirror (yep not that I need one with solid barn doors and a bulkhead !!) is bonded to the screen. Has anyone had any experience of a new screen yet ?
All this and when I sold my T5 two weeks ago I had to have the screen changed because of a crack as well but on the passenger side, the insurance co are going to love me :(

Just to add to my earlier post, will the crack stop the heated screen working ? it used to in the old heated rear windows on cars as I remember.

Hi mate, had mine replaced a couple of weeks ago. No issues at all, replaced like for like with heated screen. Best thing is there are no aftermarket ones at the minute so you get a genuine VW replacement with the VW etching in the corner to match the rest. £90 excess. Get it done quick sharp if I were you so you get a proper VW one

Yep had mine done too!!
So glad I have windscreen cover on my insurance !
They have to source the screen direct from VW, and i watched the chap from auto windscreens like a hawk, whilst he did the replacement.
Couldnt fault him, first class job!
He did say though that these heated, auto wipers etc, windscreens cost nearly £2000

Thanks for your replys, not sure now if I should wait for spring or get it done soon and get aVW original, Knowing my luck I will probably need another if I do it before spring !!

I'd get it done straight away. Not worth getting pulled over and ticketed for it.
I got mine chipped within 12 hours of picking it up. Even though that has been fixed by auto windscreens you can still see it which is annoying - at least it's on the passenger side.

I'd never had to replace a windscreen in my life but a few years back i had a bit of a run of them and had to get 3 done in 18 months, each on a different van. I was getting paranoid about driving anywhere!

Picked up a sizeable chip this morning that's gonna be a new screen :-(

Had a new screan fitted three months ago at VW preston , cost me £490.00 + Vat as our company insurance has a £900 excess . Last week I noticed another 6" crack in the passenger side . Going to leave it for the time being , very pissed off .

Jeez, that's steep. I guess not all insurance companies have a separate windscreen claim part then. That's worth remembering when renewing.

Cracked windscreen today and damage to the paintwork :cry: so depressed.

Luckily, I have windscreen cover, just hope Autoglass can source a heated version.

Sod the glass, has it dented the a-pillar as well as damaged the paint? I'm depressed for you!:(

@Chriswhit if you can see no sign of impact damage it could be a stress fracture caused by incorrect fitment. Check to see if the repair was warranted and get the company to check it out ASAP.

No dent, just chipped paint which I can sort myself. Never had a brand new vehicle before, I have been dreading something like this since it arrived in May, tis my pride and joy.

Followed a T6 into Tesco tonight whilst driving the missus Mini, just like most of us he headed to far end of the car park, away from the door bashers.

I was going through Conwy tunnel, a 57 plate scruffy Astra passed me and bang the windscreen cracked, didn't see anything flying into the windscreen would have been too fast I guess. Swore for 5 minutes with the kids in the back and drove 35 miles back home hoping that when I got out there wouldn't be any body damage.
