Windscreen Issue

Hi. I have a reoccurring problem of my wipers scratching my windscreen. I’m on to my third windscreen in three years! Always scratched in the same place, wipers replaced with every new windscreen. It’s going into VW in a couple of weeks to check the wipers before I get another windscreen. Anyone suffering the same issue or have any ideas why this may be happening consistently? Cheers

Yep! It is! But doesn’t damage my other car?!

When you switch the wipers on do you ever hear an unpleasant rough noise as they sweep the screen?
I've got to say, your problem isn't one I've heard of to the extent that you describe.

They can be noisy and a little fearsome at times! I’m wondering if the tension in the wipers is too strong - not sure if that is even possible? The van’s booked in for VW to look at it - just wanted to know if anyone had suffered the same issue. Guess I could just be lucky!

I have a rough cast house and in very stormy weather I have twice scratched my windscreen. The wind and rain drive the small flint stones on to the top of the wipers and when you wipe they can get dragged under and scratch the screen.
I now check the wipers.

Just came here following a search of the forum to get an idea of new windscreen cost as mine is scratched to buggery as well. Makes driving in low sun quite tedious.
Both my car and van are VW, both the same age (2014) and both on original windscreen. Both are parked on the street outside and I change the wiper blades at least annually, always going for genuine Bosch items.

What I find odd is that the car windscreen is still great yet the van is not.

I don’t get any nasty noises and don’t feel the tension is too tight. I clean the vehicles regularly and use rain-x screenwash as it gives a bit of extra protection from stuff sticking. I’ve even been wiping the wiper blades on the van before every journey since I started noticing it.

For two vehicles from the same manufacturer of the same age the van is far more delicate than the Golf. Literally the only parts the golf has needed from new are service parts - filters, belts, shocks and brakes. Odd for a commercial vehicle to be more flimsy than a car in my mind but I guess they are sold as tools to be replaced fairly often. I’m convinced the windscreen is cheaper quality glass on the van.

I repaired an expensive oven hob glass with a cerium oxide kit, first time I’d ever used it and it came up like new.
Unsure what the results would be on a windscreen but there’s nothing to loose in trying.

I did just buy a scratch remover designed for car glass/windscreens. Nanolex glass polish. When I’ve tried it out, on a small area first!, I’ll be back with an update. Probably won’t bother next week if it’s stinking hot.

I think I bought an Amazon kit, definitely less than £30 with a polishing mop and loads left over.
You’ve got to be brave on the deep ones when it says start with 1200 wet and dry.
