Will error messages affect my MOT?

I have two error messages on my 2020 T6.1 - one is the 'Only leave vehicle in position P' which seems to be a common issue, and 'Emergency Call restricted'. Neither seem to affect the driving in any way. Both have occurred before and were dealt with under warranty, which has now expired. Will either message cause an MOT failure? Are these likely to be something to do with software update? I have read that the software can be updated through the Infotainment system but I can't find anything on there. Any suggestions? It is due an MOT soon and I doubt I will get the issues sorted beforehand, so want to know if they will affect the MOT. Thanks

I have had this kind of problem lately. There is a chip in the shift lever. Sometimes this will just stop working and you need to replace the shift lever.
OR the connector to the gearbox is damaged, broken cable. But in my case it was the damn chip.
The workshop told me the car could be stuck and not be able to drive at all. It could be so, but why take a chance?
I had the failure for a year but mostly it appeared when it was wet outside and slightly cold.
Now i have fixed it and no more warnings. And the error disappeared after just a couple meters of driving.
The emergency call is two things. Here in Sweden we lock down 2G and 3G and then it will stop working. Lucky for me I have a newer module (4G) so it doesn't affect me at all.
But if that isn't the case, go to workshop and let them recover the software. Then it should be fine. Make sure they also update the communication for infotainment at the same time if necessary.
Good luck.

GOV.UK MOT Manual, no guess work or matter of opinion, it’s in black and white.

I have had really poor service from my local VW Van Centre. Does this error need to be fixed by VW?
Maybe explain in a bit more detail. Ultimately it’s your vehicle, you can do whatever you want.

Actually what I mean is, can this error be fixed by anyone other than VW? It is the 'Only park in P Position' error on the dash, which could be a microswitch. I have a feeling the part needs to be genuine VW and a few local mechanics have said I need to go to VW. I have dealt with 2 VW dealerships locally and they are really arrogant and difficult to deal with - they are very nice if you want to buy a new vehicle!

Hi All

A couple of weeks ago I had this error message when getting in the vehicle, a quick google and look here, suggested it may clear and that it didn't impact use of van.

While it did initially clear, we have just driven back from Alps and it started appearing more frequently and now won't clear at all. It appears to be a known issue so couple of questions I hope people can help with?

1. I purchased from Parkway VW Leicester with a warranty, is it likely to be covered by this?
2. Rough idea of costs if it isn't covered
3. Any recommendations for independent VW around Northampton - I don't have much faith in main dealers from experience!

Apart from warning, really pleased with van on trip to and from Alps. T6.1 2020 4Motion
Try asking @Boris_SH

Any competent mechanic with the correct knowledge, diagnostic nous/equipment, and access to parts can repair it. VW techs aren't supermen, their trousers go on kne leg at a time.

If you don't want to use a dealer and this is beyond the wit of your local garage to fix then your only option is to find a marque/model specialist. There will be one for sure, although you may need to travel.

This link should help you

May be too late now, but I had mine swapped out by Professional VW Conversions – VW Retrofits & Conversions, once stop for all of it with genuine VW part. Cost around £1000 however am hoping to get some of this back on warranty claim.

Went there in the end as, like you, I have not been impressed with the aftersales of VW main dealers.

Thanks. That's reassuring, as I did get it done in W Byfleet by WVC service centre for about £1000. They were very helpful and charming and even washed the van for me! I am well out of warranty but I do feel that as this is clearly such a common fault, it should have been recalled and fixed. Probably too late to claim now.
