Who uses front fog lights when it's not foggy?

I have a nonagenarian neighbour who can barely walk, but once a month or so goes for a spin in his (non-EV) car. I watch with dismay as he drives down the length of our road, brake lights on as he accelarates away. Can never understand why anyone would buy an automatic, and then still want to use their left foot
Maybe he's cleaning his brake disks. I do a bit of left foot braking after washing a car or if it's been stood for a while.

Blimey. When I was a young driver back in the early 1970s we used to stick a switchable Lucas, Wipac, or, if budget allowed, a Cibie driving lamp on the boot lid of our Minis or Escorts ostensibly in homage to rally sport teams, but frequently used to deter tailgaters.

One friend, a keen photographer, went one better and fixed a small remotely triggered rear-facing electronic flashgun onto his Mini’s parcel shelf. This ultimate ‘death ray’ was intended to ‘persuade’ anyone driving behind him with their main beams on to dip them and back off. And we call the youth of today irresponsible.

Yeh I do sometimes, quite a lot in fact. Mine are on a standalone swtich and now I have the yellow/white autobeam ones.

I used to drive a nissan primera sport+ 2.0 16cam blah blah. It looked like a taxi intil you turned the fogs on. Then it looked shhhweeeet... it lasted three months before it went back to dealership due to a rotten front cross member that was apparantly NOT an MOT failure at the point of sale 3months prior (in spring)... since then I never really reached for the button unless it's pretty foggy.

When it comes to dazzling lights, I think the issue these days more often than not is that these new LED street lights are too dim at least the ones around where I live. It's waaaayy darker than it used to be on the streets due to a lot less light from these energy savers. So much so when you someone coming the other way at night with, already intense led headlights, the increased darkness makes them significantly worse for dazzling. I feel like streetlights used to be bright enough to keep your pupils a bit more prepared for the slightly less intense headlight bulbs of yesteryear.

Swapped out the cosy warm white halogen lamps from behind my Astra's projector lensed dip beams and have put in some Marshall amplifier H7 LEDs set to 11, now have a brilliant white line of light with two upticks to the left out to about 1 km in front of us
Interestingly the wife pointed out that you could now see all the oily bits beneath the rear bumper of an Omoda SUV in front of us yesterday and that it felt a bit "up skirty wrong"!
