Which wire is Negative

Hey guys,

I wish to tap into the 12v power supply in the lower dash.

I've done the hard part, removing the dash panels. I'm now left with below three wires:


Does anyone know which one is the negative wire? It looks like the brown as this seems to loop down lower into the shielding of the socket, but I can't be sure.

Have you got a multimeter?

Is there a light in the unit?

I.e. It lights up with dash lights etc?

No multimeter unfortunately.

I'm not sure, I can check?

If it is a light in there, follow the black wire and see where it goes to, the earth will be common for both the 12v socket and the light.

If you had a meter it would be easy to check continuity back to earth

The brown will be your earth

Red = 12v to supply socket
Brown = earth for both
Grey = 12v supply to light


That's my educated guess

Hi t6dsg ,good guess that's write did some bits on mine using the same wires all working fine.
Used the grey switched live when the lights come on to power leds in door cards and foot well lighting.
Good luck but be careful no to short wires.
