Which VCP version to flash Webasto?

Hi All!

I have a 2016 t6 Caravelle with climatornic and want to upgrade the Webasto firmware to be able to use it as a parking heater.

I have full paid up VCDS but understand that I need to use VCP or ODIS to update the Webasto firmware.

Given that I haven't got VCP or a VCP compatible interface, what is the easiest route to do this?

The VCP interfaces online talk about version V5.5.1 being compatible with vehicles 1996 to 2015 which would imply they are not compatible the the t6.

Any suggestions?

I only want to update the firmware.

Thanks,

Chris

For anyone who stumbles on this ...

There are many knock-off interfaces on certain online marketplaces that start with a and end with mazon. I don't recommend you using these.

But if you must, this is what I and learned.

The interface is a simple usb to ftdi interface. You can get these for about £25 quid or for about £60 with a dongle. The version with a dongle included a copy of VCP v5.5.1.

Be very careful. The version it came with and every version of VCP 5.5.1 that I could find had viruses.

That said ...

There is a 'patch' that disables the copy protection meaning you can run VCP in a virtual machine and might be able to do what you need with the £25 interface. No need for the dongle. VCP v5.5.1 was able to flash the modules on the t6 despite only the t5 being in the supported models.

I ran the virus ridden file, with the £25 interface on windows 10 in a virtualbox virtual machine and successfully flashed the firmware on the auxiliary heater in my 2016 t6.

It was not pleasant and I would not recommend it, but it can be done if you can't find any other way.

I have a genuine VCP, when I installed the software my anti virus flagged up some false positives, I think due to the drivers.
