Which Head unit?

Hi All,

I'm looking for a head unit to replace the standard cheapo T6 unit. I'm not looking to spend a fortune so the Alpine Halo is probably too expensive.

The new one needs:
  • Wireless Apple Carplay
  • Work with OEM rear distance sensors
  • Have a decent size display for my satnav as my eyes are old - I quite like the floating screens

What can you recommend?

Ideally you need one that has the ability to display the parking graphics, not many do, the following models are our most popular
Kenwood dmx8o21dabs
Alpine halo 905
Alpine ilx 705d
Pioneer sph da77dab

Going to ask a touch question. In your van which would you put in if it had to be flush fit? Would it be the same choice if you could also choose a floating display (like the Halo)?

Can you DM me a price for the pioneer unit with a fitting kit for T6 please?

The big down side to any flush fit is screen glare, all resistive and capactive screens suffer from this, like your phone in the sun, but if I had to choose, it be the 8021 , love its simplicity of use, wireless CarPlay, android auto, displays sensors, fast operation and has the optional Kenwood dash camera control. It it was for sound quailty and power then the ilx705d , but it’s user interface feels old now.

Floating screen, again love the Kenwoods with their HD screens, but it be the Alpine Halo, due to build quality and the best fitting .

Have to be careful these days as a large percentage of premium brands are now outsourced manufactured and just not the same quality. We try not to use them

So you would recommend an Alpine over a Kenwood ? I know its your bread and butter but in your opinion is the the Alpine speaker upgrade a massive noticeable difference ?

All depends on models, budget.

If you want the most powerful, clean sound , it’s Alpine again Alpine is superb build quality and the halo design units fit the best

Kenwood dmx8o21dabs is a great mid price unit, bullet proof, ease of use, features inc wireless android auto, alpine is wire android, and dash cam control, their tablet designs have the best screens , but are bulky , however super fast operation

@Absolut5 - I have a Kenwood DMX 8019DABS currently fitted in my T6. I am interested in switching to a Kenwood DMX 9724XDS. Would the changeover be easy to achieve?

@BoroBoy. Funnily enough, I was thinking along similar lines so I'll watch this one with interest (I've currently got the Kenwood 8020). Mind you, I'll probably only go for it if it's a simple swap without changing any wiring whilst still keeping all the stuff that the 8020 manages (ie. steering wheel, parking sensors and existing Kenwood cameras - twin USB input would be nice as well which I'm not sure that the 9724 has).

If you go for another Kenwood like the 9724 it be a easy swap over
