Wheel spin followed by abs/stabilisation control (esc) error, front assist: not available error, & start-stop error

Hello

Last week I pulled away on a hill in wet weather which caused the van to wheel spin.

A couple of warning lights appeared on the dash as shown and have not gone away since.

I have a cheap OBD2 which doesn’t identify any errors, but think it’s just because it’s cheap.

On the dashboard screen when I start the engine I get three errors cycle through:

1. Error abs/stabilisation control (esc)
2. Error front assist: not available
3. Error: start-stop not available

Seems like a lot of errors on the back of a simple short wheel spin so was hoping it’s just a batter of resetting / recalibrating something.

For the record I’m not ‘handy’ with cars!

Any advice welcome, thank you.

My hubby had something similar i think its a sensor on your wheel ours was corroded so had to replace

Could be the wheel sensor but when ours failed we also got "tyre pressure not available" as well. Our brilliant next door neighbour used his very expensive diagnostics device to determine it was the offside rear. Luckily it was only the sensor and not the ring on the hub.
Hope you get it sorted.

I had an assortment of yellow lights and warnings. The other day after displaying problems the previous days I had no lights when visiting a theatre 20 miles away only for multiple lights showing on the return journey! I also know that the wheels where scrabbling for grip at home mines a 4Motion.

I have just returned from An Independent VAG Specialist and yes it was a Wheel ABS Sensor

87 C101D4A) Right rear ABS wheel speed sensor. incorrect component installed (Sporadic Fault)

89 (C101D29) Right rear ABS wheel speed sensor, Implausible signal (Sporadic Fault)

91 (C101D07) Right rear ABS wheel speed sensor. mechanical malfunction (Sporadic Fault)

95 (101D29) Right Rear ABS wheel speed sensor. Imposable signal (Sporadic Fault)

Evidentially it was very badly corroded and needed drilling . This was the second ABS wheel speed sensor that was an incorrect part the he has removed for me. I have only used VW garages before using the services of of someone who I have the utmost respect for and is the best garage service I have ever received. I do recall a dealership saying that they where having difficulty finding the correct part but then said that the have located a part to fit! I did not know it was incorrect and 2 I did not know that they had put 2 incorrect parts in. It may have been in the break during COVID, I can not quite remember. Their where some other numbers on the receipt. My guy is very thorough and very speedy. If I take a car in very first thing or as he has offered, take in last thing night before booked, that it will be attended to promptly. Often he is so prompt when I take it in first thing no sooner am I returned home and just sitting down that the phone rings and it ready, all done and can be collected! If he has a moment perhaps waiting a genuine VW part he will inspect other vehicles and see what need doing or ordering. He is so very efficient! He also has very good recall and could remember working on the differential lock and tell tails not illuminating and sorting them. His preference is VAG vehicles, I was told by an MOT station a few miles away that my VAG specialist invested heavily in VAG equipment and is very highly regarded by other garages all around the area. He will do other vehicles but VAG is his thing. He is always so busy it is not like he is looking for custom. Some times he appears on his own at other times he has a small crew to help process the work load. The MOT station guy had said that my VAG guy is a pleasure to work with and that he doubts many would have his knowledge base and that he really knows his stuff. i feel very confident with him. Only a small out of the way garage too!

I'm having similar issues I think.
But I've also got an intermittent red warning coming up as well. My local garage is excellent and have done great servicing & repairs but can't get me in till late August.

Hi what type of money are you looking at to replace the sensors?

Off hand i have no idea, he gives the written bill and Mrs Kind of Blue pays the bill. It may be somewhere usually she files things. Thing to do is find an Independent VAG garage or your favourite workshop and ask them. Rates for work can differ across the country and this is Wales he may have done something else or us also. I do not even know his rate, is might be somewhere. We pay without question or scrutiny if it was someone else we would be more circumspect until they have gained our trust or not. When one has moved about the greater country, Doctors, Dentists and everything else also vary, some very good some not so. Garages the same and what they charge sometimes has no relationship to the work or its quality and speed. Some even take the fuel out of ones tank or are spotted driving around in ones vehicle, not normally VAG indies but garages in general some believe all of that is their right others are more respectful and professional. The latter usually do best service. I will ask if she has the bill and will see if i involved other works and if itemised. :)

You need a fault scan to get anywhere with that otherwise its just pure guesses, good chance you need to replace a wheel sensor but they dont cause limp mode so poss coincidence and you have two things going on, you wont know until you scan it
If you need to replace a wheel sensor then they are around £80 for a genuine part from VW or £20-40 if sourced online but you wont know if/what one you need until you get a scan

Thank you Pauly. After my recent egr replacement the VW tax is killing me!

I had this after a bit of wheelspin on a muddy field.. after washing the van it went away and didn't come back so I assumed it just had some mud on the abs sensor?!
