Usual scenario......abs/tyre pressure warning light on........start/stop not working etc. Carista is throwing up all the fault codes. I replaced my rear left sensor last year and that worked fine. Now it's my right rear. This time it's more intermittent.......sometimes the warning lights disappear whilst driving. I can clear them with Carista......but they return after a while. Obviously, it's not a good idea to be driving around like this. My question is.....this time, could it be the loom? I ask that because I watched something on youtube (admittedly about a jag) that suggested intermittent faults like this tend to be the loom rather than the sensor. Does this make sense? I forgot to make a note of the codes in case anyone code decipher them. Is the loom a straight forward job? I bought the wheel speed sensor for the oem right left wheel from euro car parts and it's been fine. I wont buy anything spurious so does anyone have any thoughts as to what it's likely to be and where to buy it from?
Cheers guys!
Dave

Sounds like my problem recently, turned out to be the magnetic ring in the hub.
Hub had to be replaced.

I had something similar with the brake pad wear indicator light intermittently coming on. I found the wire was in poor condition and corroded where it joined the brake pad. A new set of pads sorted the problem. Might just be worth removing the sensor to have a look for anything obvious as a first option.

Strangely enough my Brake pad orange warning orange light has started to appear intermittently. At first I was unsure what it was because it had disappeared as soon as I looked properly at it to see exactly what the warning was. I thought, what pain new pads but it could be spurious then and just another failing sensor. need to have it sorted before MOT later in the year what ever it is. Wonder do I replace with original fit WV pads or aftermarket or can the sensor be replaced if that is all it is. Does not feel as sexy as a total new suspension upgrade but better than falling of the edge of a cliff I guess. What did we do before all these sensors, just change the pads when we suspect they needed changing or squeeing!!!!???

The sensor is embedded in the pad so new pads unfortunately. I tend to fit VW from TPS but you need to know someone with an account but lots of decent aftermarket pads out there

@mopardave I had the same with my right rear recently. All the codes indicated the sensor but it would occasionally clear and be fine for a drive. I didn't leave it too long before replacement but I think it tended to clear if it was a hotter day.
Either way, I changed the sensor and it's been fine for a couple of weeks.

@The Bear78 You know what mate.....it's doing just that! I think I'll try the easy(?) option first and get a new sensor.......though I have a sneaking suspicion it could be the loom??? Last time, it was hard getting the old one out.......but it was harder getting the new one in!! Even though I cleaned out the hole it goes in and lubed it with some silicone spray!!

Not sure how common this is but I had the error lights, had a garage replace the corresponding sensor and the lights came back a couple of weeks later.

Sent it back in thinking it was maybe the loom (as I read that might be the case too) but they replaced the same sensor, saying the other must be faulty… and I’ve had no issues since.

Just something to keep in mind.

I had the same problem as yours. Replaced both last Saturday and no problem since after 300 miles. It only takes about 20 mins to do so if you have one and/or capable of doing them then it's worth doing to at least rule out any other major works. I bought 4 Pagid ones from Euros thinking about changing all 4 but the first one I done cleared my fault. Just made sense to do the other rear then.

Go on mate.....shock me........how much to have the hub replaced??
In the end it was only a couple of hundred, but vw wanted 400 for the oem part. Went elsewhere and got it for 100ish. I use my garage all the time for 3 vehicles and he's good to me.
