What Is The Plastic Tab On My Drivers Wing Mirror?

It's prising the cover away slightly as seen towards the front of the mirror. Van is new to me but a 16 plate kombi highline. Loooks like it should not be there to me.

Just realised. has it taken a knock and its been put back on incorrectly with a guide tab external instead of going behind the trim cover?

That tab should be on the inside of the upper cover, so therefore it has either been knocked or someone has removed it and not refitted it properly.
