Warranty period

Newbie here, hi. I've recently bought a new Camper King conversion based on a May
2024 T30 hi line from my local Motorhome dealership. On enquiring about how long the base vehicle warranty lasts I was told they weren't sure and that I could only enquire about it from VW once I'd received the new V5 as VW would only talk to the legal owner (me). Is this right?

Welcome to this great forum. My understanding of this is 3 years from first registration so 3 years from May 2024.

My experience was that the VW warranty wasn't worth the paper it was written on so I gave up trying to get them to fix anything in the end.

The vehicle has been substantially modified so how far VW will even honour the warranty is open to question.

What does Camper King say.

3 Year VW warranty should still apply to the base vehicle and Camper King should warranty their conversion

Sounds reasonable to me, how else do they know you are the Registered Keeper.

It’s 3 years from first reg as others have said (base vehicle). How well you’re supported in a conversion is very dependant on the dealer you use I think. I’ve had great experience with Listers in droitwich. Couple of issues sorted on warranty with the old van and no quibbles about the modifications. Conversion company should offer warranty on the rest. With knights it’s 3 yrs

Ps they usually do a Black Friday deal on service plan and extended warranty up to 6yrs / 60k miles, which works out decent value if you plan to use a main dealer for servicing and probably still just about worth it if you aren’t.

"Should" is theorietical.

We only know for sure in each individual instance when someone tries.

You try taking in a camper with all the aftermarket electrical trimmings and see how far you get claiming for an expensive electrical fault. If theres a dispute, because the vehicle has been modified, it falls to the owner to prove the case - there is no automatic presumption of contractual liability as with the warranty under normal circumstances. Every single claim is very much "suck it and see." Read the manufacturers warranty T&C's to see how far out on a limb we are ir theres a dispute.
