VW T6 Gas strut problems

Previously fitted 1250 struts to hold a bike rack + bikes.
I have fitted a new strut to replace a strut that started shooting off under pressure (the lower attachment). The new one is doing the same, it's dangerous and knocks the rear light module off. Has anyone had this issue? Could the knob on the van be damaged??

Is the clip back in place fully on the end fitting of the strut?

Is the end fitting on the strut definitely the right diameter?

Not sure there is much to go wrong on the van end. If it looks like a complete ball it should be OK.

Thanks, yeah it looks the same as the other. Clip seems to fit right.
It is such a simple attachment I can't work out why it is failing.

This was the new strut- looks as though the force has actually bent the upper connection.

I guess you have checked the total weight of the bikes is within the rack specification? Most e bikes are very heavy.

No, it pings off with no weight on the back.
