Victron Battery Charger

I currently have a Numax 121000 10a battery charger hardwired in the consumer unit in my van, charging a 120ah AGM. It's in a cupboard right next to my head when I sleep and the fan is on/off through the night. Ultimately I'm looking to upgrade to 100ah lithium, so I was going to swap the Numax anyway as it doesn't support

I've seen the Victron IP22 and IP65. I presume 10-15a is best? Any thoughts on these for suitability in terms of noise and hard wiring into a van?

Any suggestions other than Victron or is it Victron all the way?

Thank you

The victron is awesome.

The ip65 version is waterproof and silent.

The ip22 version has a fan but only comes on when it hot....it also have a night mode to disable the fan.

And both versions have BT and App for settings and monitoring.

Thats why they are the best..

I've got both.

Currently have a ip22 30A version velcroed I n the camper right now..... A very capable charger.

Thanks @Dellmassive that's good to know. I've just seen that Victron state not to put it in a cupboard with the battery. That's really the only place I have to put it to be able to hard wire it to the consumer unit (which I presume will void the warranty as I'll have to cut the plug off). The current Numax charger is fitted here, above the battery.

I presume then the space in the photo (back of the van) is a no no based on this? The space on the other side of this unit houses the gas cylinder. Otherwise I could drill through the side of the cabinet and place it under the RIB bed. We tend to keep our bedding in there, but it's generally fairly empty when we are on EHU. I would ideally like to avoid making holes in my cabinets if possible. Conundrum!!

Also, as it would be mounted on the cabinet would I be best placed to mount it on an aluminium plate or similar to protect the wood?

Thank you.

If I was I you, I would just swap the charger as it is (fit in the clipboard)..

And swap the AGM for a Lithium.

Yes the manual says don't fit next to the battery as SLA batteries can gas off explosive fumes, - but that's standard advice.

And all will say to have ventilation for any charger that run hot.

You can cut the plug off... Or just fit a single flying socket if your worried about the warranty.

Thank you @Dellmassive . I'm happy to cut the plug off. My aim is to switch to lithium. I'm just trying to sort how to get a DC - DC chsrger in using my split charge wiring, which is doable given the 16mm2 cable, but again, housing issues.

If you get the victron XS30 or XS50,

You can fit where the SCR is. And use the App to set the current limit....IE 15A to keep that 16mm2 cable cool.

They have auto engine run detection as well so you don't need a ignition feed.

And have charge profiles.for AGM & Lithium etc.

Plus the same BT APP and the EHU charger.

Take a look at the this example.

FYI..

You can download the APP and play with it as you can choose demo chargers from the list.

The EHU and dcdc are all on there.

Thank you for that. The SCR is currently under the bonnet so I'll have to relocate it inside the van. I'll have a look at those to. They will go nicely with my smart solar MPPT😁.

the Orion XS is IP65 rated,

I've got mine under the drivers seat next to the leisure battery.
