Very new campervan owner - gas connections...

Picked up Vera at the weekend and never owned a camper or even been camping before....

Have a query re: gas.....

The van has a single gas ring and sink inbuilt. I am looking to get a Cadac Cook 2 Cook eventually and was wondering what/if to use to connect to a Cadac Dual PowerPac (Cadac) so I can swap easily between the two cooking sources?

Currently there is just a flex hose from the hob with no regulator. I know bottled gas is cheaper and lasts longer but thinking this is the easier option

The other option is to add a regulator and use a single gas canister. Probably cost you 12quid for the regulator and you can use the same canisters as you would for the cadac one.

Thanks, will I need to do anything safety wise? There isn't much room so would this be the right type of gas 4.5kg Butane Gas Bottle or this 5kg Gaslight | Flogas

That's what I have been using. I tend to disconnect it after use, probably just being paranoid though haha.

I’d agree, and suggest using the EN417/C500 cartridges for both the van and Cadac. That’s exactly what I’ve done to my van to save room in the cupboard over the previous 907 Calor gas bottle. I don’t use the cooker in the van much so gaining the extra space was a better option. I just carry a second EN417 cartridge for the Cadac / Jetboil. Just make sure the regulator for the van has a shut off valve (the one linked above does) so you can easily isolate the gas.

Mine just sits under the sink, so the pipework is really short. Does the trick.

Just to add to the solid advice already given:

• Make sure the conversion stores the gas in a locker with a drop vent (so any leaks drop out the bottom as propane/butane is heavier than air)
• Make sure the canister is physically restrained, you don't want any load on the gas line or fittings
• Don't use adaptors as the fewer connections the less chance of a leak - only exception there is good quality purpose designed quick connectors that some folks use to swap between different systems, they're much safer than dodgy adaptors but still should be regularly checked.
