Vehicle wallet vs tiny glove box - why?

Like most of the t 6.1 dash layout - one of the poorest designs I’ve come across. Gloves in the “glove box” some sort of reference to when people had leather driving gloves 
My vehicle book pack lives under the seat inside a plastic zipper bag - along with a few other bits. No big deal. After all how often actually get the manuals out

Mine fits in the slot above the screen perfectly.
I don't have that slot in my Shuttle...
Mine lives in the boot in a box of other driver gubbins, like tow rope, de icer etc...
