You had your awning nicked? Or are you asking if it happens when people leave there awnings for the day?
If it's the latter, i never seen it happen but i used to work on a posh site with good security. It's low risk I'd think, if curtains or privacy screen is up then it's not guarenteed to a thief that 1. the awning isnt occupied and 2. Theives can't see if there are any valuables worth risking point 1 to steal and 3. If they're after the awning to sell it it'd be a lot to risk point 1 (confrontation by undiscovered dweller or dog) and point 2 stealing a tent thats full of chairs and clobber etc would be nightmare to do on the sly. People taking awnings down are very very watchable by ANYONE on the site. It's some of the best sport on some sites hehe #divorceinabag
Anyway, I'd say go for it. Get luggage padlocks and lock zip eyes together if you're really worried!
Hi badjamin, thanks so much for your detailed reply, as I've said in my post, totally new to this venture and been fortunate enough to get this van so will take onboard your advice and go out there and explore
I know a man that this very thing happened to - drove to Scotland with his brand new caravan and brand new blow up awning .
Went out for the day and someone robbed his awning!
When he returned his stuff was all blowing around the field .
A guy on another pitch said " yeah 2 blokes turned up in a white van and started taking it down but we just assumed they were helpers" .
Its gotta be super rare something like this happens, usually the site staff would be on the look out for anything with a slight hint of 'iffyness' about it.
But in remote spots i suppose things like this can happen ...just as likely to have robbed his new caravan to go with it.
I can thoroughly recommend this awning through personal use of ours. I’d also say that I have not heard of anyone having an awning spirited away , the risks of being caught in the act seem pretty high.
Well, hopefully they are - depends if you've cheaped-out with your insurance or not.
"So, you left the item unattended and unsecured in a field full of strangers, out in the middle of nowhere, did you sir? Hmmm, let me just put you on hold while I speak to my supervisor..."
Seriously, though, never heard an awning/tent being nicked in the 25 years we've been camping.
Me neither , it was on a remote site in scotland in the winter so i'd imagine pretty empty.
Normally you'd have at least a dozen curtain twitchers watching your every move
